West View Cottage is a pretty stone cottage in Langcliffe. Typical of the Dales style, it is built of locally quarried stone and has a traditional layout with space for upto five people to sleep in three bedrooms. The size and the space are perfect for couples, families or friends. Langcliffe is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and over the border of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it's ideal for anyone who loves being outdoors in spectacular scenery.
Langcliffe is a quiet place with a strong sense of community at the heart of which is the village church and green. Being only a mile from Settle means that you're close to an excellent choice of amenities that include shops, cafes, pubs and a Tuesday market that's been held weekly since the town received its Market Charter in 1249. Settle has been an economic hub for centuries, with past industries including spinning and weaving, quarrying, and lime production. You can find out more about past residents at The Folly and the Museum of North Craven Life. Shop in The Shambles, take in a show at the decorative Victorian Hall and stop by the tiny Gallery on the Green in Upper Settle, which boasts a status as the world's smallest art gallery. Other towns and villages to visit include Malham, Giggleswick, Hawes, Ingleton, Clapham and Austwick.
The warmth of the Yorkshire welcome is something you have to experience first hand to appreciate. However, as friendly as the locals are, it's the landscape rather than the people that draws people to this region. In addition to the incredible footpaths, cycling routes and mountain bike trails, your daily adventures can include wild swimming, rock climbing, potholing and caving. Even a simple stroll through the countryside will set your senses alight as you walk through ancient woodlands, over hills and through dales, spotting rare wildflowers and birds of prey along with a myriad of other species that flourish in the protected environment. The views don't stop when the sun goes down as the Yorkshire Dales are a designated International Dark Sky Reserve.
Day trips can include cycling or walking the seven miles to Malham Tarn and Malham Cove, or tackling the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk that starts five miles away in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Take a ride on the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway, spending time exploring the ancient border city. You can drive to the Forest of Bowland AONB in half an hour, and reach the southern part of the Lake District National Park in an hour. Skipton and Lancaster are also within reach to make the chances of you running out of ways to have fun, excitement and adventure during your stay at West View Cottage at precisely zero!
