About Bumble Bee Barn

Bumble Bee Barn is a cosy retreat for two sitting in an idyllic position amongst beautiful grounds on the edge of the Peak District National Park in the Derbyshire Hills. Equidistant from Bakewell and Matlock, Bumble Bee Barn is one of two unique holiday homes that provide an ideal base for exploring the area's many attractions including popular Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall which are both ten minutes away by car.

Offering single level accommodation, the cottage has lots of olde worlde character which is enhanced by a range cooker, exposed stonework and traditional furnishings adding to the charm.

Self-contained, this detached barn nestles amongst glorious gardens and affords a southerly aspect. It is well equipped with everything needed to self-cater in comfort at any time of the year. Ablaze with colour during the warmer months, guests have full use of the pretty cottage gardens and adjoining land where chickens and the two geese (Freddy and Ginger) wander. There is plenty of outside space to relax and take full advantage of the beautiful views that allow the eye to wander over farmland and the surrounding hills covered in woodland and heather.

For those who enjoy walking and cycling, the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities with many lovely walks and cycle rides starting from the front door. The Tissington Trail and Monsal Trail are also a short drive away.

Spend your days relaxing in the beauty of this picturesque setting or tear yourself away and visit the many attractions. Stanton Moor offers lovely walks and is rich in historic interest with its ancient Nine Ladies Stone Circle and Bronze Age. The county town of Matlock is a short drive away with a great choice of shops and places for a meal out. Bakewell is another favourite with lots of lovely independent shops, cafes, bustling weekly market (Monday's) and picturesque riverside setting. Other popular attractions include: world famous Blue John Mines for an underground adventure; the ancient market town of Ashbourne with its cobbled market place that holds a twice weekly market (Thursday and Saturday); Derwent Water with its lovely circular lake walk; Ladybower Reservoir; the stunning valley and much loved beauty spot of Dovedale; and Castleton, possibly the most picturesque village in the Peak District.

Location (The Peak District)

Bumble Bee Barn is a beautifully converted detached barn nestling amongst gorgeous gardens. An oasis of calm, the cottage has a southerly sunny aspect and offers couples the opportunity to enjoy a romantic short break out of peak season or a longer holiday in a setting that assures peace and tranquility.

Accommodation is spacious and comprises:

  • Sitting room with comfy seating in a country cottage style, television, DVD player, CD player (as well as radio) and dining table with seating for up to six guests. French doors let the outside and beautiful views flood in.
  • Hand crafted farmhouse-style kitchen well equipped with lovely range cooker/boiler for the hot water and central heating, pine units topped with striking granite, washing machine, microwave, integrated fridge/freezer and Belfast sink adding to the charm.
  • Pretty bedroom with comfy double bed to assure a good nights sleep after a long day exploring the area. There is also plenty of clothes storage.
  • Bathroom with Victorian white sanitary wear including a shower over the bath, WC and wash basin.

Outside: Guests have a private fenced patio which is accessible from the sitting room with patio set for alfresco dining whilst soaking up the lovely views over the garden, pond and surrounding countryside. The garden is visited by numerous feathered friends (and also at times deer which visit the surrounding flower meadow), and it provides lovely valley views that stretch towards the moor - superb in the autumn when the woody hillside is ablaze with colour.

Additional information: Short breaks available out of peak season (November to March) and charged at £140 for two nights, £180 for three, £210 for four and £240 for five. No dogs - the property is kept pet free so suitable for those with allergies. Prices include all linen and heating but electricity is usually charged extra by meter reading during the colder months. There are two country pubs within walking distance and a list of personally tried and tested pubs and restaurants in the area is also provided for guests upon booking. Baby welcome and travel cot is available if required.
