17 The Lanes will have you packing your bags from the minute you book, so keen will you be to get there! The former miner's cottage is in Bolehill near Wirksworth, on the edge of the Peak District National Park with stunning walks and bike rides from the door. The owners have lovingly restored and refurbished it, retaining its original character while adding modern convenience that ensures it's comfortable for couples, families and friends. There is space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, and the cottage is also dog-friendly. Guests appreciate the fantastic location and the owner's careful attention to detail make 17 The Lanes a welcoming place to stay in any season.
Once called "Quirksworth" by the Prince of Wales, Wirksworth is a charming town in the Derbyshire Dales, with excellent amenities that include pubs, cafes and shops. There's been a weekly market held here since 1306 so plan your visit for a Tuesday to buy fresh local produce. Also worth visiting are the awarding-winning Heritage Centre, historic church, and the decorated wells that are a highlight of the town's annual carnival over the late May bank holiday weekend. If you want a wider choice of places to eat, drink and shop, Matlock is only four miles north of Wirksworth with a regular bus service between the two towns if you don't want to drive, walk or cycle.
The landscape around Wirksworth is diverse and beautiful. Guests have direct access to the moors and dales through waymarked footpaths like the High Peak Trail which goes for 17.5 miles between High Peak Junction to Dowlow and passes close to the cottage. Climbing and cycling are also popular outdoor activities, and there's bicycle hire available locally for those who need it. Try your hand at fly-fishing or golf, and go sailing or paddleboarding on nearby Carsington Water.
Daytrips can include visiting Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Matlock Bath, Tissington, Bonsall and Cromford. Get your thrills at Gulliver's Kingdom or Alton Towers, unleash your inner Bridgerton at Chatsworth House, wander around the Crich Tram Museum, or take a ride on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. Wirksworth and the surrounding area have a full calendar of fun events celebrating the arts, antiques and agriculture, just to name a few.

Outside: The pretty cottage garden is accessed via a small footbridge and has a lawn and a terrace with a table and chairs. There is off-street parking for two cars, and secure storage for bikes, golf clubs and fishing rods.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and towels are all provided. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for a small surcharge. The cottage is built into a hillside and has period features that make it unsuitable for wheelchairs. Smoking is not permitted.
