Catherine Cottage has everything you're looking for in a Peak District holiday cottage. Built from locally quarried honey-coloured stone, the welcoming property is in the picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water, barely 100 metres from the beautiful River Wye and a short stroll from the friendly Bulls Head pub. The cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms, with space for a well-behaved dog. There's nowhere quite like the Peak District National Park. It's a beautiful mix of stunning walks, characterful villages and elegant towns, and some of the finest stately homes in England. It's irresistible in every season.
Ashford-in-the-Water is a lovely village with lots to offer visitors. Wander beside the river to the medieval Sheepwash Bridge, which Visit England awarded the prestigious accolade of being the best bridge in England for playing Pooh Sticks. Stop by Holy Trinity Church for the impressive stained-glass windows and examples of the black marble for which the village was once famous. You can walk from the cottage to the village shop well stocked with all the essentials plus a good choice of local delicacies. Stop by the tea room for freshly made sandwiches to take on a walk or bike ride along the Monsal Trail, or climb Monsal Head for a picnic with a view. The Peak District's other favourite walking and cycling destinations include Kinder Scout, Dovedale, and Mam Tor.
Bakewell is only a mile and a half down river from Ashford-in-the-Water. It's a lively country town with a busy Monday market and a great choice of independent shops and places to eat. Alternatively, drive ten miles in the other direction to reach beautiful Buxton, where the architecture reflects the efforts of the fifth Duke of Devonshire to create a spa town to rival Bath. Local attractions include Poole's Cavern and Buxton Country Park, magnificent Chatsworth House, National Trust Lyme, the Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Village, and Alton Towers. Other places to visit are Matlock and Matlock Spa, and dozens of gorgeous villages including the historic plague village of Eyam.
Catherine Cottage is wonderfully welcoming in all seasons. It has been beautifully renovated to provide a high standard of accommodation that blends 21st Century comforts with original period character.
