About Fenns Barn

Fenns Barn is your own piece of Peak District heaven. Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Fenns Farm, which has been in the Renshaw family for five generations, the stone building has been turned from a functional barn into a gorgeous holiday home with space to accommodate six people in three bedrooms, plus an additional person on a fold-up bed. The layout suits couples, families or friends, while the location near Butterton in the Manifold Valley is perfect for walking, cycling and sightseeing. The cottage is extremely well-equipped for self-catering and within walking distance of the Black Lion pub which has been welcoming thirsty patrons since 1782. A hot tub will also be installed for summer 2021 (additional charge will apply - please speak to the owner for further details).

The Manifold Valley is spectacular in every season. Fenns Barn is ideally placed with immediate access to beautiful walks from the door. Climb the Roaches, walk or cycle along the Manifold Valley Trail, and explore the Dovedale Valley. Thor's Cave is only a mile away, while the walk from Butterton to Warslow and Wettonmill is also very pretty. The Manifold River is a tributary of the River Dove, and some footpaths lead beside both rivers and provide opportunities to fish for brown trout and grayling.

Fenns Farm is peaceful and feels remote but is convenient for some of the area's best-loved attractions. The magnificent Chatsworth House is only 35 minutes away, with Haddon Hall, Peak Wildlife Park, World of Wedgewood, and Alton Towers also being accessible by car. Daytrips can include exploring Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne and Leek, or the many picturesque villages that dot the Peak District National Park.

The owners of Fenns Farm have another comfortable self-catering cottage and two further barns providing more rustic accommodation for glamping. Each property is entirely private and self-contained but can, depending on availability, be booked together to accommodate extended families or groups of friends. Please see the owner's website for details.

Accommodation Comprises:

Fenns Barn is a period property lovingly transformed from functional to fantastic. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Parking is next to the cottage, a few steps from the door that opens straight into the kitchen - the heart of any rural home. The history of the cottage is apparent in the exposed beams and stone walls, with modern touches like underfloor heating hidden beneath the flagstone floor.
  • Cooking for family and friends will be a pleasure in the well-equipped kitchen which has beautiful wooden cabinets and lots of workspace.
The galley-style kitchen leads into the dining space with a solid oak table and seven chairs set beside a window that overlooks the garden.
  • Walk through to the living area where sofas surround a coffee table within sight of the TV.
  • Separate "snug" living room with a two-seater sofa that opens into a sofabed.
  • Shower room with an electric shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Spacious double bedroom with zip link beds that can either be a super-kingsize (6ft-wide) bed or two 3ft-wide singles, depending on your requirements. This room is big enough for a travel cot or a single folding bed.

Upstairs:

  • Two further double bedrooms with superking/twin beds, bedside tables with reading lights, and proper storage.
  • Family bathroom with a shower over the bath, a heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The cottage has a private enclosed garden laid to lawn and parking for three cars. A wood-fired hot tub is available for a surcharge.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided. A travel cot (no bedding) is available. Short breaks are possible outside of peak holiday season. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
