Roe Deer Cottage is one of a collection of fantastic self-catering holiday cottages between the Northumberland Coast AONB and the Northumberland National Park. Friends and families will feel right at home in this spacious property which sleeps six people in three ensuite bedrooms and features a spacious living area and an enclosed patio with an outdoor hot tub. Roe Deer Cottage is in Lucker, a short stroll from the award-winning Apple Inn dog-friendly gastro pub and a beauty spa, and less than four miles from Bamburgh Castle. This corner of England boasts some of the biggest and best views in the country, and it's all here waiting for you to explore.
Bamburgh is best known for its incredible castle, which towers over the town and the coast. It's been home to the Armstrong Family for over 125 years, but its' roots date back more than 10,000 years to one of Britain's oldest Bronze Age settlements. Considering its extensive history, the current castle feels almost modern in comparison. It was built in the 1100s by the Saxons on the site of a previous fortress sacked by the Vikings. At first glance, the scenery here feels gloriously unspoiled and peaceful, but you only need to scratch the surface of history for a very different story! Alnwick Castle, home to the Percy family for seven centuries, is another impressive fortress, and you can't miss Hadrian's Wall whether you drive, walk or cycle part of its defensive length.
One of the best ways to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Northumberland is on foot. Follow the coastal footpath or go inland to places like Steel Rigg and Crag Lough. Lindisfarne is an absolute must-see during your holiday. The Holy Island is a mile off the coast and accessible at low tide via a causeway. Another favourite walk is from Craster to Low Newton along the coast, passing Dunstaburgh Castle and the harbour at Newton Haven. The Cheviots are great for walking or mountain biking, and there are miles of quiet roads and country lanes for road cyclists to use. Other activities include horse riding along the beach, playing golf, fishing, and taking a wildlife boat cruise to the Farne Islands.
Roe Deer Cottage is a purpose-built holiday rental in a peaceful location. It is next door to Red Fox Cottage, and you can book these together to accommodate groups of up to twelve people. Please see the owner's website for more information.
