Torranbuie is a typical Victorian Farmstead, there’s a date on the Steading of 1887 but there’s been a Farm at the location going back to the 1700’s. Both the Steading and the Farmhouse have been restored to provide spacias and comfortable family accommodation. The Farm occupies a plot of 3 acres, the house has a secure grass paddock of 1/3 acre directly in front, perfect for children and dogs  Strathdon is better described as a parish occupied along the river Don which rises in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains flowing some 60 miles to the coast near Aberdeen. The Don is fished along most of it’s length for both Salmon and Trout. On the last Saturday in August the Lonach Games and Gathering takes place with a full program of Games, Dancing and Music. What makes the Gathering special the world over is the march of the Lonach Highlanders in full military regalia with swords and pikes. They assemble early in Bellabeg to march up the Glen, calling at a number of large houses for refreshment. Having been on the march in the 70’s drinking large glasses of whiskey early in the morning is a challenge. The marchers go around the games arena to open the games and recover from their exertions. A single track road leads from the main A944 to Torranbuie, parking is adjacent the road which is ploughed in the winter, at a thousand feet we can get heavy snow.  The Cottage is very well insulated and has a oil fired AGA Cooker in a very large Country Kitchen providing constant heat and hot water. A sitting room with a Wood Stove is off the Kitchen with a TV and all the usual gadgets. Wifi is also available with Data Transfer on  mobiles. The family Bathroom is on the ground floor with twin hand basins, shower, bath and WC. There is a Bedroom next to the Bathroom with twin single beds, all the rooms look out over the front Garden. At the back door is a large glass house used for plants in the summer and logs in the winter. The main Bedrooms are upstairs 1 with a double and one with 2 singles. For comfort there’s a bathroom between the Bedrooms with a WC and hand Basin. Strathdon is well placed for touring with Aberdeen, Inverness and the Moray coast within an hour and twenty minutes. All the outdoor activities are available and listed on this site.

The Lochaber area of the Highlands is also home to the highest mountain in the United Kingdom, Ben Nevis. For those wanting to stay closer to ground level, there are still many options in the Highland area. Escape to the area of Loch Ness for beautiful coastal regions, dark forests and hills covered in heather and local plant life. You can also learn about the legend of the Loch Ness monster, as well as trying to discover him in the mysterious loch! There are opportunities in the area for walkers, cyclists and horse riders with trails that cover the length of the loch. You can stop off at many tourist hotspots along the way, including the Fall of Foyers. This magnificent waterfall feeds into Loch Ness and is a stunning piece of natural beauty.

The Highland area has many isles, with the stand-out island being the Isle of Skye. Voted one of the top four islands in the world, its views are unmissable. The island has many bays and white coasts which are perfect for a serene, tranquil day out. Skye is also home to lots of Scottish history and heritage. From stories that the Castle Moil was home to a Norwegian princess, to dinosaur footprints in the rocks of Staffin Bay and inland stone circles, Skye is an alluring place. Gaelic culture is also of high importance on the island and true Scottish traditions can be seen everywhere. As well as this, ask the locals about the myths of mermaids, selkies and other Gaelic legends of the island for great stories of Scottish heroes and their adventures.

The Highland area is large and boasts of many must-see places to visit. From the towering mountains to the serene lochs and magical islands, the Highland holds unimaginable delights for visitors.
