Tigh Mo Mhiann is everything you imagine a Highland cottage to be, with thick stone walls, cosy real fires and surrounded by garden and woodland. The location, on the edge of a friendly village, offers peace and privacy as well as easy walking distance to the village inns and cafe. The two-bedroom cottage sleeps four people, or six if you use the comfortable sofa-bed in the living room, so is perfect for couples and families who want a quiet base in the heart of the West Highlands.
Roybridge is a great location as it is rural yet still convenient for Fort William and Glasgow both by train and car. Local village beauty spots are plentiful and include the Monessie Gorge, the River Spean and the Parallel Roads of Glen Roy: not roads at all but a unique geological feature studied by Darwin.
As wonderfully peaceful as the cottage feels, it is only 12 miles from Fort William. The town is a hub for any outdoor enthusiast and also ideal for shopping and dining out. You could 'take a dram' at the local distillery or enjoy the best of Scottish seafood beside Loch Linnhe. Fans of the Harry Potter films will love the opportunity to take a journey on the Jacobite Steam Train over the Glenfinnan Viaduct to Mallaig Harbour - it's just like being on the Hogwart's Express. While the final destination may not be Hogwarts, it is still magical.
With the area famous for its spectacular scenery and attractions, visitors are spoilt for choice of activities. Glencoe, voted the most romantic glen in Scotland, is certainly worth visiting as are the stunning white beaches of Morar. For those feeling energetic, there is the challenge of hiking up Ben Nevis, skiing or mountain biking at Nevis Range or exploring the many footpaths around Glen Nevis. For easy mountain walks, you can ride the gondola and be whisked up in minutes to Aonach Mor, Scotland's eighth highest mountain. For lovers' of history there are castles and museums to visit: Urquhart castle on Loch Ness is a family favourite.
There is something about being in a landscape as vast as the West Highlands that helps puts any irritants from your daily life into perspective. Visitors to Tigh Mo Mihann leave refreshed and energised, and keen to return for another fantastic holiday in the Scottish Highlands.
