Duart Cottage is in Glencoe village, conveniently close to the village shop and cafe and within walking distance of the River Coe and Loch Leven, The memorial marking the site of the Glencoe Massacre in 1692 is also close by. The pretty white period cottage can sleep up to six people in three lovely bedrooms, so it is ideal for families and friends who want to feel comfortable and settled while they explore Lochaber. It is also a popular choice with those who like outdoor activities with lovely riverside and woodland walks straight from the front door and walks to the sea shore of nearby Loch Leven. Surrounded by Scotlands finest mountains and with the Glencoe Mountain Ski Resort just a short drive away, Glencoe is a great choice for a holiday at any time of the year.
As part of the Lochaber Geopark, Glencoe has one of the most dramatic Highland locations you can imagine. There is nothing gentle or subtle about the landscape, which ranges from plunging lochs to towering mountain peaks that were literally shaped by fire and ice. The five-mile Glencoe Geotrail highlights some of its more picturesque spots, explaining how an ancient volcano and glacier combined to create the scenery before you. Alternatively, the Loch Lomond Heritage Trail follows a cycle and footpath that goes around the loch and through a nature park, allowing visitors to see local birds and wildlife. The cottage has a drying room and secure storage for outdoor gear.
This natural playground is rich with adventure from hillwalking to mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, sailing and climbing. Even the drive into Glencoe is unforgettable and those with a keen eye may recognise some of the scenery from films like "Skyfall", "Braveheart" and the Harry Potter series. The Ballachulish Visitor Centre, about a mile from the cottage, is an excellent source of information about the area's sights and attractions and where you can arrange boat trips and guided tours. Glencoe is well-known amongst mountaineers who come for the challenge of eight Munroes, the Three Sisters and Aonach Eagach, although there are easier routes for the less-experienced climber or hillwalker.
Fort William is less than half an hour's drive from Duart Cottage, tempting visitors with the spectacular sight of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest peak. Alternatively head south along the A828 to Oban - one of the most scenic drives in Scotland, for shopping, sightseeing and the freshest local seafood.
Guests at Duart Cottage receive a warm welcome all year round whether they come to enjoy the long summer nights by the loch or to experience the majesty of the Highlands in winter.
