Upper Instow Beach Cottage is a light-filled holiday apartment with beautiful views over the Torridge Estuary and Instow Beach. It is on the top floor of a period property and sleeps up to five people in three lovely bedrooms with a layout that is perfect for families but also suits friends or even couples who enjoy the extra space. The location is fantastic for a self-catering holiday in Devon. It's across the road from the beach and within walking distance of shops, cafes and welcoming places like the Instow Arms and The Boathouse bar and restaurant. An added benefit for a first-floor apartment is the private terrace garden and off-street parking.
Instow is the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge Rivers. Maybe its all the water or possibly the mild climate, but the town has a laid-back vibe which is extremely conducive to relaxing and having fun. Go sailing, kayaking or canoeing in the estuary, which is tidal and has a sandy beach where dogs are welcome all year round (with some restrictions between May and October). A few miles from the apartment, Westward Ho! is a favourite for surfing, bodyboarding and kitesurfing, with a tidal swimming pool for morning laps. Equipment hire and surf lessons are available for those who want them.
Walking, mountain biking, horseriding, fishing, and golf are all easily accessible. The South West Coast Path has spectacular views in every season with the stretch between Westward Ho! to Cornbrough Cliffs being a gentle introduction to walking around Devon. The rugged wilderness of Exmoor National Park is within easy reach, and the traffic-free Tarka Trail passes through Instow giving access to this family-friendly walking and cycling route. Book in advance to play at the historic Royal Devon Golf Club, which has been attracting players for the links and the views since 1864.
Local attractions include the Skern Lodge activity centre, The Big Sheep and the Milky Way adventure parks, Hartland Abbey, RHS Rosemoor, and Dartington Crystal. Visit Appledore and Bideford, go shopping in the historic Pannier Markets in Barnstaple, wander along Clovelly's cobbled streets, or take the clifftop railway between Lynton and Lynmouth.
Upper Instow Beach Cottage is completely self-contained. Depending on availability, it can be booked with Lower Instow Beach Cottage to accommodate up to 11 friends or extended family members. Please see the owner's website for information.

The owners have decorated Upper Instow Beach Cottage in a style that suits the age of the property yet which is very comfortable for modern visitors. Accommodation is all on one level.
Outside: A door from the sitting room opens onto the terrace with a table and chairs where guests can sit and admire uninterrupted views over the beach and water. There's a small shady garden and off-street parking.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and towels are all included. Guests to supply beach towels if required. One well-behaved dog is welcome through prior arrangement and a for a small surcharge. A cot (no bedding), high chair and stairgate are available on request. Short breaks are possible, depending on availability. No smoking.
