No 4 Railway Cottage provides a true home away from home holiday experience tucked away on the end of a no though lane in the pretty village of West Dean on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border. The charming cottage boasts original features such as exposed beams and an open fire and enjoys stunning views across open fields. The private garden, small fruit orchard and wildflower meadow provides a small oasis of calm, perfect for lazy afternoons and al fresco dining. Sleeping four guests in two double bedrooms No 4 Railway Cottage is suited to couples, small families and friends.
Sitting within a conservation area, and with the River Dunn running through the centre of the village, West Dean is the perfect rural idyll for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life. An attractive village green sits on either side of the river and there are numerous footpaths to explore from the village. Bentley Woods, a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest, is a beautiful spot for a stroll or bike ride. The woodland is a haven for butterflies and the carpets of bluebells are stunning in the Spring. If you have worked up an appetite, visit one of the pubs in the neighbouring villages for some homecooked food washed down with some real ale. If you don't fancy the short drive you can enjoy a pleasant stroll across the fields to return home. The nearest shop is approximately four miles away which caters for all your everyday needs, including freshly baked breads and pastries. If you would rather leave your car behind you can take advantage of the railway station in the village.
There are many places of interest around the local area, some of the most popular being Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, Hilliers Gardens and Arboretum, Paultons Theme Park and Longleat Safari Park. There are also many pretty villages in the surrounding area, which are all worth a visit. If you are looking to explore further afield the New Forest National Park and the Jurassic coastline are within easy reach, as are the sandy beaches at Bournemouth and Weymouth which offer many attractions for our younger visitors.
No 4 Railway Cottage is available for bookings all year round and can also be booked with the neighbouring cottage, which together can sleep up to ten guests.
