The Blue Cottage will warm your heart. The charming thatched holiday cottage dates from the 1500s and has been a part of Ebbesbourne Wake for centuries. It sits peacefully on the edge of the village, surrounded by a sprawling country garden with views over the surrounding countryside. You can't see the road from the garden yet you're only 300 metres from the village centre and the welcoming Horseshoe Inn. The Blue Cottage has a cosy woodburner and sleeps four people in two bedrooms, combining the charm of a 16th Century rustic cobb cottage with the conveniences of a 20th Century extension that houses a recently updated kitchen and bathroom. It's ideal for families and couples.
Ebbesbourne Wake is a very traditional English village with a church and pub at its heart. The Horseshoe Inn is a proper country pub, serving real ales and delicious food. Their Sunday roasts are not to be missed, and you'll need to book a table to make sure you don't miss out. The village is part of the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the cottage having scenic walks from the gate, including one leading through a field and over the hill behind the cottage. Walk in the footsteps of drovers along the Ox Drove, or walk through the RSPB's Garston Wood. Footpaths and bridleways lead from the village heading north, south, east and west, so bring your bike or most comfortable walking shoes and prepare to explore somewhere different every day.
You're spoilt for choice when it comes to shopping and sightseeing given the cottage is on the Wiltshire / Dorset borders. For groceries, pop to Broadchalke's award-winning village shop, three miles away. Sixpenny Handley also has an excellent shop, or you could pop to Wilton. You can't miss a visit to Shaftsbury and its famously steep cobbled Gold Hill that older visitors will recognise from the iconic 1970s advert for Hovis Bread. In addition to a wide choice of places to eat, drink and shop, Shaftesbury has a Grade-I listed abbey, a medieval church, and a museum and is the starting point for many stunning walks. The ancient city of Salisbury is also 10 miles from The Blue Cottage. In addition to its 800-year-old cathedral, it has an excellent museum with a large collection of artefacts found around Stonehenge. Salisbury is also perfect for shopping and dining out.
Stonehenge is half an hour's drive from the cottage. The ancient stone circle dates from around 2,500 BCE but wasn't the only henge constructed around that time. Two miles from Stonehenge, Woodhenge has six circles of posts, while The Sanctuary on Overton Hill near Avebury is centuries older. Visitors interested in learning more about these ceremonial sites should go to the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes. Other day trips can include shopping and sightseeing in Bath, around an hour's drive from the cottage. You can also visit Wells, the Dorset Coast, Glastonbury and Longleat.
The Blue Cottage is available for bookings all year round.

The 20th Century extension includes the modern kitchen and bathrooms, giving guests the best of both worlds. Accommodation is over two levels.
