The beautiful harbour towns of Mevagissey, Looe and Fowey are true Cornish gems. Explore the quirky shops dotted along quaint narrow streets or enjoy an ice cream as you watch the boats bring in their catch of the day. There are plenty of stunning coves and sandy beaches nearby that are perfect for swimming, snorkelling and rock pooling. Or simply kick off your flip flops and enjoy the warm sand between your toes. If you are looking for an adventure, head to the large secluded beach at Lantic Bay. It’s a steep trek down (and back up!) but you will be rewarded with crystal clear waters, hidden coves and the best picnic spot for miles.

Just a few miles along the coast from Looe, the pretty fishing village of Polperro is what postcards are made of. The colourful fisherman’s cottages are tucked into the steep hillsides overlooking cobbled streets and boats bobbing about in the small picturesque harbour. Head out on a fishing trip or beach lovers will love the large stretch of sand around the corner at Talland Bay. If you are feeling energetic you can walk here along the stunning coastal path. Reward yourself with a swim or kayak on one of the three sheltered beaches before heading back to Polperro for a crab sandwich by the harbour or treat yourself to dinner at one of the fantastic seafood restaurants.

If you want a change from the sea, head inland to the beautiful village of St Noet. Lying on the edge of Bodmin Moor, you can either enjoy the rugged wildness of the moorland or the spectacular waterfalls and ancient woodland at Golitha Falls. Have a paddle, enjoy a picnic or further down the river you can even hire a kayak. For a perfect family day out visit The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The 200 acres of stunning gardens, woodland walks, jungle and farmland makes this a fantastic natural playground for big and small kids alike. Alternatively, visit the infamous Eden Project or mesmerising St Michael’s Mount. Thrill seekers can fly high on England’s longest and fastest zipwire high above the biodomes or water sports enthusiasts can paddleboard around the iconic castle!

Whilst the sheltered coves and turquoise seas have a distinct Mediterranean feel, the wild walks, pretty fishing villages and fascinating tales of pirates and smugglers give South Cornwall a unique appeal. Whether you choose to spend your days building sandcastles on the beach, embracing cliff top walks or meandering through the charming white washed fishing villages, it’s hard to beat South Cornwall for a holiday by the sea. Throw in exotic gardens, wild moors and ancient woodlands and you have all the ingredients for a perfect getaway. Whether the icing on the cake is your own hot tub or swimming pool, stunning sea views or walks from the front door, our fantastic selection of holiday cottages in South Cornwall has something to suit everyone.
