The Coach House is situated within the private grounds of Mevagissey House, formerly the village vicarage, surrounded by three acres of mature gardens and woodland. The detached one-bedroom cottage is designed as spacious accommodation for 2 adults or 2 and a child aged between 2 and 12, and up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome. The large triple-aspect open-plan living area features a wood-burning stove, well-equipped kitchen, dining table for three, and a quiet reading nook with garden views. The kingsize bedroom (which can be set up as twins) has generous storage and wardrobe space, a folding chair bed suitable for a child and an en-suite shower room. A south-facing patio and secluded garden offer a peaceful spot for outdoor dining, and there’s on-site parking and reliable WiFi.
Located on the edge of Mevagissey, one of South Cornwall’s most characterful fishing villages, it is a 10 minute down hill walk to the harbour, where you’ll find traditional pubs, seafood restaurants, independent shops and a vibrant working quay. The village hosts Mevagissey Feast Week each summer and a popular Shanty Festival each autumn, adding music and celebration to the coastal calendar. A short drive away are the acclaimed Lost Gardens of Heligan, home to sub-tropical plantings and woodland trails. Book lovers will enjoy discovering that Mevagissey House inspired the vicarage in Susan Cooper’s Over Sea, Under Stone, with the village reimagined as “Trewissick” in her Dark Is Rising series.
You can easily reach The Eden Project, Pentewan Sands, and enjoy scenic clifftop walks along the South West Coast Path, which runs within walking distance of the cottage. Spend a morning kayaking from Gorran Haven, or enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the harbour town of Charlestown, where you’ll find excellent dining at The Longstore or handmade treats at local bakeries and cafés. Whether exploring the Cornish coast, discovering its literary connections, or enjoying a quiet escape, The Coach House offers a well-appointed and relaxing base. For those travelling with extended family or friends, the cottage can be booked alongside Goose Cottage, Sea Thrift, or Glebe Cottage, all within the grounds of Mevagissey House.
