Sandbar will win you over even before you arrive. The impressive architect-designed holiday home is in the gorgeous village of St Just in Roseland and boasts a stylish interior and tranquil water views. The house sleeps couples, families or friends with space for up to four people to sleep in two bedrooms with an additional child or guest able to sleep on the quality double sofa bed.
Many visitors have never heard of St Just in Roseland, which makes it feel as if you're being let in on a wonderful secret. The village takes its name from the 13th Century church, a place so picturesque that Sir John Betjeman described it as "...the most beautiful churchyard on Earth." Both the church and the tidal creek are a short stroll from the cottage, as is a welcoming tea room and the boatyard and launch.
Follow the footpath around the estuary for two and a half miles until you reach St Mawes. The charming fishing village has a harbour and an incredibly well-preserved fortress (English Heritage entry) built on the orders of Henry VIII to defend England against the threat of invasion by both France and Spain. St Mawes has an impressive choice of places to drink, shop and eat whether your heart desires fish and chips or fine dining (the terrace of the Tresanton Hotel is a particular favourite in the summer overlooking the sea!). From St Mawes, you can also catch a regular ferry to Falmouth and Truro, allowing you to explore without the car. Here there are independent shops, maritime museum, Pendennis Castle (English Heritage) and boat trips.
The Roseland Peninsula is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there is so much to see and do that you'll have no trouble filling your days with fun. Days out can include sunning yourself on beaches like Portscatho, Pendower, Carne and Towans; visiting top attractions such as the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah and National Trust Trellisick Gardens; or shopping and sightseeing in Truro, Falmouth or Charlestown. Follow the South West Coast Path for breathtaking views or climb on a bike and pedal your way around some of the excellent cycling routes that lead to destinations such as Portholland and Mevagissey.
Sandbar is available all year round and is child and pet-friendly. Please see the owner's website for more information.
