About Llwyn Derw Cottage

Sandwiched between the mountains and the sea, and sleeping ten guests in five bedrooms (four of which are ensuite), Llwyn Derw Cottage is the perfect self-catering holiday pad for groups of friends or multi-generational family holidays. The sunny conservatory is a great spot to hide away with a good book or the morning papers, whilst the open fire ensures the large living room is cosy all year round. In the summer throw open the French doors and enjoy a glass of wine and barbecue in the garden, or sit back and relax over a leisurely al fresco lunch surrounded by pretty flowers and peaceful surroundings. Kids can escape to the snug where there is an Xbox, and there is even a ground floor bedroom and bathroom for those who prefer not to climb stairs.

You can stock up on local provisions in the next village of Dyffryn, just two minutes away in the car, which has a Spar with award winning butchers, or if you fancy a night off cooking head to the village pub. If you want to venture further afield you will find larger shops and plenty of eateries in the popular seaside towns of Barmouth and Harlech, both just a few miles away. Whilst you are there you shouldn't miss the spectacular castle at Harlech. Perched on a rocky crag and backed by the mountainous peaks in Snowdonia National Park, it's hard not to be wowed by this mighty coastal fortress.

Any beach babes will be spoilt for choice with the huge number of fantastic sandy bays on your doorstep. The large sandy beach at Talybont is backed by sand dunes and is a good spot for surfing or fishing. Alternatively, the vast Blue Flag beach at Barmouth rarely feels busy, even in the height of summer. Hire a paddle board, take a boat trip around the estuary, or enjoy a traditional bucket and spade day on the beach followed by fish and chips as you watch the sun set over the sea. If you are visiting Harlech you are sure to be able to find a secluded spot on the four mile stretch of golden sand which is backed by a National Nature Reserve.

If hills, mountains and lakes are more your thing, you certainly won't be disappointed. Challenge yourself to reach the summit of Cader Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia, or enjoy numerous less strenuous walks taking in rivers, lakes and breathtaking scenery. If you would rather get around on two wheels there are plenty of mountain biking trails nearby, including the world famous mountain bike centre at Coed y Brenin just over half an hour away. If you would prefer to let the train take the strain you can hop on the Welsh Highland Railway and enjoy a scenic trip into the mountains on board an historic steam train.

If you are looking for something a bit different visit the unique Italianate Village at Portmeirion, go white water rafting in Bala or bounce and slide your way through a disused mine at Bounce Below in Ffestiniog. You certainly won't struggle to find things to do when on holiday at Llwyn Derw Cottage, but you would also be forgiven for simply taking some time out to relax and recharge in a beautiful house set in stunning surroundings.
