Converted from a mill barn, Quarry Cottage (sleeps eight to twelve guests) and Orchard Cottage (sleeps seven) nestle amongst the extensive grounds of Highgate House. An impressive country property, Highgate is located three miles from the ancient market town of Newtown in Mid Wales, and just a mile from the village of Bettws Cedewain with pub serving good food.
Surrounded by glorious Welsh countryside, the cottages offer the opportunity to get away from it all. A place where you can enjoy peace, tranquility and picturesque scenery, as well as great walking, cycle rides, golf, fishing, shooting (the renowned Mid Wales Shooting Ground is just twenty minutes away) and horse riding.
Perfectly placed, the area provides a 'gateway' to explore the many attractions of Wales. Spend your days visiting castles, country houses and gardens like magnificent Powis Castle. Enjoy a day on one of the stunning sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay with towns such as Aberystwyth and Aberdovey bursting with seaside charm. The wildlife haven of Lake Vrynwy offers an abundance of wonderful walks, water sports and outdoor adventures, and the Welsh and Shropshire towns of Llandrindod Wells, Ludlow and Shrewsbury will satisfy those with a passion for shopping and fine dining.
For adventure seekers, head to Red Ridge Outdoor Centre (just fifteen minutes from the cottages) where you can get the adrenaline pumping with caving, canoeing, rafting (including rafting for wheelchair users), zip wires, abseiling, and archery to name just a few; or take a day trip and visit Snowdonia National Park, a vast outdoor playground with something for everyone.
Alternatively, stay closer to home and relax in the extensive gardens of Highgate House with lawn areas to sit, borders blooming with spring and summer flowers, glorious views over the valley, animals to see grazing in the fields (alpacas, kune kune pigs, Shetland ponies and pygmy goats), and trees to find a shady spot under with a good book when the sun shines. The mill pond at the back of the cottages attracts an abundance of wildlife due to the trout that live in it (the pond is licensed and fishing is available), so keep your eyes open for otters and red kites soaring up above when sitting out on the terrace balcony enjoying your morning coffee or G&T!
For some relaxation, pampering and fine dining, the local area offers a number of spas, and the renowned Checkers Michelin starred restaurant in the historic market town of Montgomery - all the right ingredients for a relaxing and memorable holiday away with friends and family.
