About Oakview

Oakview is a contemporary timber holiday cottage set in a timeless location deep in rural mid-Wales. Constructed using a traditional oak frame and incorporating modern necessities like underfloor heating and efficient glazing, it's a beautiful bolthole where couples can step back from the daily grind. Picture yourself luxuriating under the stars in your private outdoor hot tub, having spent your day walking or cycling through the glorious countryside around Newtown and Welshpool, discovering castles and markets, and doing the things you like but rarely have time to enjoy with work and other commitments butting in.

Newtown might be the biggest town in Powys, but it is a world away from the noisy, frantic pace you might be used to. Instead, it's a beautiful market town beside the banks of the River Severn, offering a wide choice of shops and places to eat as well as a theatre, art centre, and museum. You can also pick up provisions for your self-catering holiday in the shops or on market days at Welshpool and Llanidloes.

If you're looking for a complete rest, you might be happy to stay in the cottage, soak in the hot tub, arrange for afternoon tea to be delivered, and book a massage or other spa treatment. This cottage is comfortable enough for you to do just that. However, if you're eager to explore, then there's plenty on the doorstep to keep you happy. Walkers love this part of Wales for its number and diversity of footpaths. Walk beside the Severn, along Offa's Dyke, the Kerry Ridgeway route, The Severn Way, and the Source of the Severn. The Elan Valley is nearby with more beautiful walks and cycling routes and a Red Kite Feeding Centre where you can see how the population of this regal bird, once endangered, is now recovering.

Local attractions include something for everyone. Wander around Powis Castle, admire the gardens at Glansevern Hall, or get your kicks on the downhill mountain bike course at Caersws, clay pigeon shooting, zip-lining, kayaking or canoeing, fishing, or learning to rally drive at Carno. Even a short break here will leave you feeling refreshed, but why not stay longer and treat yourself to some indulgent on-site spa treatments, just to make sure you're completely relaxed!

Accommodation Comprises:

Oakview is a contemporary barn built using traditional materials so that it harmonises with its natural surroundings. Keeping with the green ethos, the owners use biomass fuel, solar and wind power to further limit the impact to the environment. Accommodation is entirely on ground floor level.

  • Stunning rural views greet you as soon as you enter, as an entire wall of the open-plan living room has floor-to-ceiling windows that frame images of rolling fields and forests that change daily and seasonally. There are no immediate neighbours and you are not overlooked.
  • Settle back on the sofa with a drink in hand and the best of mid-Wales in front of you, or switch the TV on and put your feet up in front of a good film.
  • There is no skimping on quality in the kitchen, which is fully equipped for self-catering and includes standard size appliances, including a dishwasher.
  • Sleep will come easily in the luxurious bedroom, especially if you enjoy a soak in the copper slipper bath beside the window. Is there anything better than a bath with a view?
  • Those who prefer a shower will love the stylish marble-tiled shower room with its shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The enclosed garden has the same fantastic views as the house, a patio with seating and an outdoor hot tub. There's off-street parking next to the cottage.

Additional Infomation: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included. Guests to bring towels to use with the hot tub. One well-behaved dog is welcome by arrangement. Smoking indoors is not permitted.
