The Cwtch offers such a genuinely hospitable welcome that you'll feel embraced by it as soon as you arrive. It's hard to find the right English translation for "cwtch". As a verb, it's something between a hug and a cuddle - full of affection and warmth. As a noun, it can describe a cosy spot to snuggle down and retreat from the world. This holiday cottage embodies both aspects perfectly, wrapping you in comfort and providing a romantic place where you can escape and enjoy uninterrupted time together. Spend happy hours exploring the stunning scenery around Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, and the Welsh Borders before returning to soothe tired muscles in the private outdoor hot tub and stretching out on the sofa in front of the log burner. You'd call it blissful. The Welsh say nefoedd. Either way, it's a little slice of heaven.
Newtown is a popular spot for a holiday in mid-Wales. As the biggest town in Powys, it is well served with places to eat, drink and shop. Other options are the market towns of Welshpool, Montgomery, Llanidloes, and Machynlleth. Walkers love Newtown for the proximity to Offa's Dyke, with other favourite routes including the Source of the Severn, the Severn Way, and Kerry Ridgeway. Mountain bikers are only five miles from the trails at Caersws and within easy reach of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Elan Valley is a wonderful place for a drive, walk or cycle, with bird watchers able to add a visit to the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Rhayader.
Being in border country means there's a good choice of castles, so add Powis, Montgomery and Dolforwyn to your agenda if you're a fan of a fortified ruin, and throw in Glansevern Hall if you can't resist immaculate gardens. Anglers can cast their rods in the River Severn or lakes like Fachwen Pool, within walking distance of the cottage. Other attractions and activities include King Arthur's Labyrinth, clay pigeon shooting, kayaking, canoeing and horse riding. The Cwtch is just over an hour from the beach at Aberystwyth, Ynyslas and Borth, making it easy to spend a day at the seaside.
Guests of The Cwtch have the option of booking an indulgent spa treatment or arranging for afternoon tea to be enjoyed in the privacy of your cottage. Please see the owner's website for information.
