Coachingmans Cottage is a luxurious restoration of a traditional stone cottage in the heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. Just a short walk from the friendly Castle Coaching Inn in Trecastle, the owners have paid great attention to detail to ensure guests can quickly settle into their home-away-from-home. There is space for four guests to stay in two bedrooms and the property is also dog-friendly, so it is ideal for couples, families or friends.
Trecastle is in a fantastic location between Sennybridge and Brecon, surrounded by spectacular countryside that is perfect for hiking and mountain biking. The River Usk flows alongside the village, offering the opportunity to fish and kayak, with further prospects for these relaxing pastimes on the nearby Usk Reservoir. The castle which stood on the site a thousand years ago and gave its name to the area is long gone, leaving behind a well-preserved motte and bailey that is an excellent destination for a leisurely walk and picnic.
Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons is around ten miles away, with a well-maintained path that makes it a favourite walk with locals and visitors of all ages. Other popular routes include Lyn y Fan Fach and Sgwd yr Eira, where you can walk behind the waterfall. The Brecon Beacons National Park is perfect for people who enjoy "big sky" views, whatever the season.
Brecon is a lively market town just a few miles from the cottage, providing a wide array of places to eat, drink and shop. Brecon is the starting point of the Monmouthshire Brecon canal built to shift coal from the mountains to the docks in Newport - a distance of around 45 miles. Thirty-three miles of the canal is still navigable by boat, offering another relaxing way to sightsee in this beautiful national park. Brecon is also home to the Royal Welsh regiment which has a small but well-curated museum in the town.
Wales is lush and green for a reason, and the owners have made Coachingmans Cottage the ideal retreat to hole up and stay dry if the rain comes down. Light the log burner and get out a board game or jigsaw, read a book or watch a film. The cottage has WiFi and over 200 Sky TV channels so, while you have every opportunity to relax, you certainly won't feel bored.
Tyn Y Coed is a sister cottage to Coachingmans, just two miles away. It sleeps six people in three bedrooms and is a great solution if you are on holiday with extended family or friends or as an alternative if Coachingmans is already booked.
