Living
Wagtail is a relaxed, family-friendly way to enjoy a Lake District break, blending the novelty of glamping with the comforts that make holidays genuinely easy. Sleeping up to six, the dog-friendly holiday accommodation suits families travelling together, grandparents joining for part of the stay, or parents looking for somewhere that feels a little different while still being practical. Inside, the layout has been carefully considered, with two double beds and a mezzanine sleeping area with single beds for children, creating clear zones for sleeping, relaxing and spending time together. During the day, the fold-away double bed opens up the living space, making room to stretch out on the sofa, play games around the table or simply sit with the doors open and the woodland air drifting through. A proper kitchen, full bathroom, heating and WiFi keep everything straightforward, while the covered decking and sheltered balcony extend the living space outdoors.
Sheltered within the woodland grounds of Skelwith Fold, Wagtail enjoys a peaceful position in a holiday park that feels spacious, well-managed and very family-friendly. The 130-acre setting is threaded with walking paths and surfaced trails, making it easy to explore on foot, whether with young children, pushchairs or dogs. There is room for children to roam safely, with a large recreation field, woodland adventure areas and thoughtfully designed play spaces, while quieter corners of the park suit slower walks, wildlife spotting and moments of calm. Facilities are practical and low-key, including a small shop, modern washrooms, a laundrette and occasional visiting food vans, all without disturbing the relaxed atmosphere. From the park gates, it’s a short drive or gentle walk into Ambleside, where independent shops, cafés and bakeries sit alongside access to Lake Windermere, lakeside paths and boat trips.
The wider Lake District National Park opens up easily from Wagtail, whether your days are shaped around gentle outings or longer adventures. Nearby villages such as Grasmere, Elterwater and Hawkshead offer rewarding low-level walks and good places to stop for lunch, while the Langdale Valley and surrounding fells appeal to those keen to head higher. Lake Windermere is close enough for a spontaneous afternoon on the water, from cruises to paddleboarding or a simple lakeside picnic. Families will also find plenty to fill slower days, from woodland trails and waterfalls to historic houses and local attractions. Wagtail suits holidays that don’t follow a rigid plan - early starts and packed lunches one day, a late breakfast and a short stroll the next, with a comfortable, welcoming place to return to at the end of it all.
