Helvellyn Safari Tent offers a relaxed glamping experience set among the woodland glades of Skelwith Fold in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Built in the style of a traditional safari tent yet thoughtfully equipped for comfort, this spacious retreat allows guests to enjoy the atmosphere of camping without giving up everyday conveniences. The tent sleeps up to six people and includes a double bedroom and a second bedroom with four adult-sized bunk beds. Wildlife is often close at hand. Roe deer sometimes wander between the trees and red squirrels can occasionally be seen darting through the branches. Helvellyn Safari Tent offers a distinctive holiday rental in the Lake District for those who enjoy nature yet appreciate the comfort of self-catering accommodation.
Skelwith Fold itself sits just a short distance from Ambleside and feels wonderfully tucked away despite its central Lakeland location. The park is surrounded by more than 100 acres of woodland, threaded with quiet paths and open glades. Many guests enjoy exploring the grounds at a slower pace, wandering along the trails or taking a gentle walk around Slew Tarn, a small woodland tarn that becomes particularly peaceful in the early evening. The nearby village of Skelwith Bridge offers a handful of cafés and places to eat, while Ambleside provides a livelier choice of restaurants, traditional pubs and independent outdoor shops. Waterhead on Windermere is also close by, where boats leave the pier for lake cruises and lakeside walks begin along the shoreline.
The wider Lake District landscape begins almost as soon as you leave the park. Windermere lies only a short drive away and offers opportunities for boat trips, paddleboarding and scenic lakeside walks. Coniston Water provides a quieter setting with beautiful mountain views and historic links to Donald Campbell’s famous speed records. Walkers often head for nearby fells such as Loughrigg or explore the forest trails of Grizedale. Grasmere and Rydal Water are also within easy reach and reward a leisurely day spent wandering between villages, lakes and surrounding hills. Ullswater, one of the most dramatic lakes in the region, is also well worth the journey for its sweeping mountain scenery and classic Lakeland walking routes. With its peaceful woodland setting and central location in the National Park, Helvellyn Safari Tent offers a comfortable base from which to explore one of Britain’s most celebrated landscapes.
