Osprey is a contemporary family glamping pod tucked into the woodland setting of Skelwith Fold Holiday Park in the Lake District. Designed to combine the simplicity of outdoor living with the comfort of modern accommodation, this cleverly arranged hideaway is a relaxed base surrounded by trees and wildlife. Large windows at the front of the pod draw in plenty of natural light and frame views of the surrounding woodland, while the covered decking area provides a quiet place to sit and watch the changing colours of the forest throughout the day. Inside, the layout has been thoughtfully designed to make the most of the space. Guests also have access to a nearby communal barbecue gazebo, which is a popular gathering spot on warm evenings, 130 acres of grounds, plus other family-friendly features. Osprey welcomes up to two dogs as a welcoming option for guests who want to explore the Lake District with their four-legged companions.
Skelwith Fold itself sits in a peaceful position just over a mile from Ambleside and is surrounded by more than one hundred acres of woodland. The park has a calm, well-kept atmosphere and a range of facilities designed to make a stay here easy and relaxed. A well-stocked on-site shop provides everyday essentials and tasty local produce, while the reception team are on hand with local knowledge and suggestions for days out. Families often spend time in the recreation field or children's play area, and there are woodland adventure trails weaving through the forest that are especially popular with younger visitors. Slew Tarn, a quiet woodland tarn within the park grounds, is a peaceful place for an evening stroll and a good spot for wildlife watching. The nearby village of Skelwith Bridge has a handful of cafés and places to eat, while Ambleside has a wider selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, along with outdoor gear stores and boat trips on nearby Windermere.
The wider Lake District landscape begins almost as soon as you leave the park. Windermere lies just a short drive away, where visitors can hire kayaks or paddleboards, take a boat trip across the lake or simply wander along the shoreline at Waterhead. Coniston Water, Rydal Water and Grasmere are also within easy reach, and each has its own character, from quiet lakeside walks to traditional Lakeland villages. Walkers love the beauty of the nearby fells around Loughrigg and the paths of Grizedale Forest, while cyclists enjoy the mix of quiet lanes and forest trails. For those interested in wildlife, the surrounding woods and lakes delight with frequent sightings of roe deer, woodpeckers, and, occasionally, the elusive red squirrel. With its central position in the Lake District National Park and peaceful woodland surroundings, Osprey offers a comfortable glamping base for exploring one of Britain's most beloved landscapes.
