About Miller Moss

Miller Moss is a beautiful self-catering family cottage in the Lake District, providing 5 Star Gold accommodation with lovely views of Eden Valley and Warnell Fell. There is room for up to four people to sleep in two bedrooms, with the dog-friendly cottage being a favourite with families who appreciate extra space. Miller Moss is one of nine stunning luxurious properties at Monkhouse Hill, and the owners have collected an impressive array of awards in recognition of the high standard of accommodation they provide. The cottage sits in five acres of private grounds in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside, close to the border of the Lake District National Park. Membership of the North Lakes Spa hotel leisure club with swimming pool, sauna and the latest gym equipment is included in your stay.

While the cottage is comfortable enough that you may never want to leave, you won’t be able to resist exploring the beautiful surroundings. It is only a 15-minute drive from the M6 and you can easily access the best parts of the Northern Fells of the Lake District, including Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater and Ullswater, the latter of which boasts a fleet of vintage boats to offer visitors a unique sightseeing experience. Many of the guests who stay at Monkhouse Hill do so not only for the superb accommodation but its proximity to the Caldbeck Fells, Skiddaw, the Catbells and Blencathra. Take a picnic to enjoy at the top, or satisfy your ravenous appetite at the bottom at one of the fantastic country pubs around Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket (which has Britain's first cooperative pub), both of which are only three miles from the cottage.

Keswick is around a half-hour’s drive from the cottage, providing a wide variety of shops as well as attractions like the Puzzle Museum, Derwent Pencil Museum, and the Lakes Distillery. Penrith is even closer, boasting an imposing castle, museum, shops and places to eat and drink. Other Lake District attractions include the World of Beatrix Potter, Honister Slate Mine, Go Ape in Whinlatter, the Lake District Wildlife Park, indoor and outdoor play and adventure centres, and golf courses.

Whether you are a family with active children or a couple with babies or toddlers, the high standard of accommodation and child-friendly extras at Miller Moss will ensure your holiday is memorably special. You can find out more about Miller Moss as well as the other holiday properties at Monkhouse Hill on the owner's website.

Location (The Lake District)

Accommodation Comprises:

The owners of Miller Moss have taken a hundred-year-old barn on the 17th Century farm and transformed it into a stone holiday cottage suitable for up for four guests to stay in a high standard of comfort. It is child and pet-friendly, with a travel cot, stairgate and highchair all being available on request.

Downstairs:

  • The bedrooms and family bathroom are on the ground floor. The master bedroom is a lovely double room with bedside tables and reading lights.
  • The twin room is another restful space with neutral decor that is suitable for children or adults, with two standard (3ft) single beds and proper storage.
  • Light and fresh tiled bathroom, featuring a bath with shower overhead, large heated chrome towel rail, WC and handbasin.
  • Stairs lead from the entrance hall to the living area and kitchen.

Upstairs:

  • A high, vaulted ceiling with exposed beams is the first thing that captures your eye when you ascend to the first floor, followed swiftly by exposed stone walls and stylish furnishings. This room is welcoming and comfortable, and somewhere you can relax completely. There are three comfortable leather sofas, a flatscreen TV with DVD player, log burning stove, and a Bluetooth speaker with CD and DAB Radio. The cottage also has free, high-speed WiFi.
  • The upstairs area is open plan, with a dining space next to the kitchen. The wooden dining table can seat up to six guests so that you can have friends over for dinner.
  • Space has been cleverly divided so the kitchen is in the corner but not isolated from the dining area. It is fitted with an under counter fridge and freezer, oven and stove, and a dishwasher. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils, and ample cupboard storage so you can unpack your groceries, or order them for delivery in advance and have them put away for you.

Outside: Miller Moss now has its own private patio area with garden furniture, hot tub and BBQ. Guests are free to wander the five-acres of grounds at Monkhill House, which feature a pond, lawned areas, hundreds of trees, and an outdoor adventure playground. Monkhouse Hill has a shared games room in a separate outbuilding, with a small pool table, table football and table tennis. The cottage has allocated car parking.

Additional information: All utilities, linen and towels are included in the cost of hire, as is the WiFi. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement from the owner. Depending on availability, Miller Moss can be hired together with other properties at Monkhouse Hill to accommodate larger groups. Smoking is not permitted. Short breaks available all year round.
