About Brae Fell

Brae Fell provides 5-Star Gold standard accommodation for up to eight people in the northern Lake District. It is pet and child-friendly, with luxurious extras like a spa bath, bespoke furniture and original artworks. The barn conversion has a clever layout with a living area and two bedrooms on each floor, so there is ample space and privacy if you are on holiday with extended family and friends, as well as stylish living areas that are designed with socialising in mind. Brae Fell is at Monkhouse Hill, where the owners have carefully transformed a 17th Century Lake District Farm into nine beautiful self-catering properties which can be booked individually, or together to accommodate larger groups. The owner's website has information about all of the other available properties.

The Northern Fells and the Eden Valley are utterly breathtaking. Unlike parts of the Lake District National Park which are further south and can seem overrun with holidaymakers, the Northern Fells rarely feel crowded. Monkhouse Hill is at the foot of the Caldbeck fells, and you could easily walk for hours and barely see another person. Favourite walks in the area include peaks such as Skiddaw, Catbells and Blencathra, whilst the nearest lakes are Bassenthwaite, Ullswater and Derwentwater.

There is never any reason to feel bored when you stay at Brae Fell because not only are the walking trails fantastic, but there are plenty of choices when it comes to golf, fishing, sailing and canoeing, and even high-ropes courses and climbing. Cycling is a hugely popular way to explore, and there are miles of off-road tracks and back-lane road routes to suit every ability. Mountain bikers will find plenty of excitement on the trails around Whinlatter Forest.

Being just 15 minutes from the M6 means that top Lake District attractions are all within easy reach. Tour Honister slate mine, see the animals at Walby Farm Park or the Lake District Wildlife Park, cruise Ullswater or Derwentwater, discover the delightful World of Beatrix Potter. Guests of Monkhouse Hill have complimentary access to the North Lakes Spa in Penrith, so you can spend a lazy day making the most of the gym, pool and steam room, with the option of booking an indulgent beauty treatment.

Whether you are on holiday with your family, friends or a mix of both, the excellent standard of accommodation and beautiful surroundings at Brae Fell will ensure your holiday is one you will never want to forget.

Location (The Lake District)

Accommodation Comprises:

Brae Fell is a fantastic barn conversion where the old and the new come together to create a 5-Star Gold standard of accommodation for up to eight people over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Walk across the outdoor patio to the front door, and enter into a welcoming hallway where stairs lead to the upper floor and a door opens into the dining room.
  • The elegant dining room has windows on both sides to let in natural light, and is furnished with a long dining table and eight chairs. Exposed beams and painted stone walls are stylish features that incorporate the age of the building into the decor. Open tread stairs lead to the living room upstairs.
  • A well-equipped kitchen leads from the dining room, featuring a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven, microwave and a good variety of utensils and equipment.
  • Bedroom suite separated from the dining area by a private corridor which is self-contained with a double room and a twin room sharing a modern family bathroom.
  • Bathroom with a bath with overhead shower, WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • The main living area is on the first floor to make the most of the natural light and the lovely views of the Eden Valley. It has exposed beams and stone walls, with comfortable seating and a flatscreen Smart TV. This is a room where you can relax and enjoy spending time together, either watching television, chatting, or using the music system with Bluetooth connection and a DAB radio.
  • A second, smaller sitting room is ideal for reading quietly or playing games.
  • As with the ground floor, the bedroom suite is separated from the living area by a private corridor. There is another double and a twin room up here, which share a family bathroom.
  • The upstairs bathroom has a water jet spa bath, WC and handbasin.

Outside: The grounds of Monkhouse Hill are vast, with nearly five acres of space to roam and play. The owners have planted around 400 trees to provide a welcome habitat for birds as well as creating shaded areas for picnics and games. The grounds have a small pond and stream, as well as an outdoor adventure playground for children. The games room is shared by other guests on site and includes a small pool table, table tennis and table football. Brae Fell has allocated parking spaces. Brae Fell has its own outdoor patio area with garden furniture and large party size hot tub so you can sit, relax and eat outside.

Additional Information: The cottage has Superfast Fibre Broadband and central heating, and the hire includes all utilities, linen and towels. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement from the owner. The barn can be booked together with other properties at Monkhouse Hill, to accommodate larger groups. No smoking. Short breaks available all year round.
