Brae Fell provides 5-Star Gold standard accommodation for up to eight people in the northern Lake District. It is pet and child-friendly, with luxurious extras like a spa bath, bespoke furniture and original artworks. The barn conversion has a clever layout with a living area and two bedrooms on each floor, so there is ample space and privacy if you are on holiday with extended family and friends, as well as stylish living areas that are designed with socialising in mind. Brae Fell is at Monkhouse Hill, where the owners have carefully transformed a 17th Century Lake District Farm into nine beautiful self-catering properties which can be booked individually, or together to accommodate larger groups. The owner's website has information about all of the other available properties.
The Northern Fells and the Eden Valley are utterly breathtaking. Unlike parts of the Lake District National Park which are further south and can seem overrun with holidaymakers, the Northern Fells rarely feel crowded. Monkhouse Hill is at the foot of the Caldbeck fells, and you could easily walk for hours and barely see another person. Favourite walks in the area include peaks such as Skiddaw, Catbells and Blencathra, whilst the nearest lakes are Bassenthwaite, Ullswater and Derwentwater.
There is never any reason to feel bored when you stay at Brae Fell because not only are the walking trails fantastic, but there are plenty of choices when it comes to golf, fishing, sailing and canoeing, and even high-ropes courses and climbing. Cycling is a hugely popular way to explore, and there are miles of off-road tracks and back-lane road routes to suit every ability. Mountain bikers will find plenty of excitement on the trails around Whinlatter Forest.
Being just 15 minutes from the M6 means that top Lake District attractions are all within easy reach. Tour Honister slate mine, see the animals at Walby Farm Park or the Lake District Wildlife Park, cruise Ullswater or Derwentwater, discover the delightful World of Beatrix Potter. Guests of Monkhouse Hill have complimentary access to the North Lakes Spa in Penrith, so you can spend a lazy day making the most of the gym, pool and steam room, with the option of booking an indulgent beauty treatment.
Whether you are on holiday with your family, friends or a mix of both, the excellent standard of accommodation and beautiful surroundings at Brae Fell will ensure your holiday is one you will never want to forget.
