Hawes
Hawes offers beautiful waterfalls, Dales Countryside Museum, Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, and rewarding local walks. Two miles away is Hardraw Force and the 800 year old Green Dragon Inn. We're central for 'crown jewel' attractions; Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove, Ribblehead Viaduct, Ingleton Waterfall Trail, Yorkshire Three Peaks, Fountain's and Jervaux Abbey's & locations featured in All Creatures Great and Small.
We offer a free bespoke 40 page 'Things To Do Guide Based In Hawes Across The Yorkshire Dales' and we are passionate about helping guests enjoy the area.
An Extraordinary Cottage You Will Love
We consistently receive feedback from guests that they appreciate the set back (and quiet) yet central location in Hawes with every amenity within just a couple of minutes walk of Heart Of Hawes Holiday Cottage.
Equally importantly, we receive recognition for the spaciousness of all the rooms, high quality furnishings, decor, art and style of the house, and the spotless standards of cleaning and presentation by our brilliant local housekeepers Joanne and Chris.
You'll be pleased by the well equipped kitchen / diner, high quality mattresses and bedding and plentiful wardrobe / drawer space, the great range of maps and visitor information, and all the other little touches we provide.
The house is warm with a modern central heating system & the ability to digitally adjust temperature room by room. Guests rate the high flow shower and super clean bathroom. It's really special to light the log burner in the stunning inglenook fireplace in the living room on an evening and just relax.
We've a south facing 'suntrap' cottage garden with patio, and a secure gated paved area just outside the kitchen door. Of course we live in a digital age, so we provide free superfast Wifi. There's plenty of parking in Hawes too; either roadside for free or in two pay car parks.
For parents / grandparents with young children we offer stairgates, a fire guard, high chair, and a travel cot. And our four legged friends are also well cared for with a dog station (use of dog towels, dog bowls and complimentary treats).
Simply put you can book in confidence (evidenced by our 5* maximum rating, and Superhost status by Airbnb) that Heart Of Hawes Holiday Cottage is a very high standard home, in a prime location in Hawes and perfect for exploring The Yorkshire Dales.
Feel free to call / message / whats app us on (+44)07771513168 or email heartofhawes@gmail.com if you want a very personable approach to organising your visit. We can take bookings over the phone as well as through the website. Payments are protected through Stripe payment system offering you consumer protection.

Heart Of Hawes Holiday Cottage - The Detail
On entry we’ve a large hallway with plenty of coat hooks (opposite a radiator), welcome table, and an old pew to sit on to take boots / walking shoes on / off. Door into the living room, and another door to the rear outside area (bike access).
Through into the spacious living room with two large windows offering light, and the centrepiece of the stunning original inglenook fireplace and log burner. There is also an antique oak dresser that contains board games and jigsaws for your use. There’s a large table in the living room suitable for board games or jigsaws too. The room has a smart tv with freeview channels and the ability for you to log into your own streaming accounts (don’t forget to log out at the end of your stay).
Through into the well equipped kitchen with a dining table capable of seating six people. Bosch electric oven, electric hob, newly fitted dishwasher, a half sized under unit fridge, and a sink and a half and a draining board. Under top unit lighting to help ambiance.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms and the bathroom. Two good sized double bedrooms each with a kingsized bed, both offering fabulous views overlooking the town and the dales beyond. The third bedroom is at the back of the house and feels spacious with a single bed with a view of the garden and hills beyond.
There is plenty of storage across the three bedrooms; a mix of wardrobe, drawers and hanging space.
The king size beds have 1600 pocket orthopaedic medium to soft mattresses from John Lewis. Our duvet covers and pillowcases are by Joules and our duvets, pillows, pillow liners, and bottom sheets all have synthetic filling. All curtains have blackout linings.
To the rear (through the kitchen / hall), we have a small but more than sufficient cottage garden. Externally at kitchen level there is a paved long L shaped ‘corridor’ area bordered by the external walls of the house and by a dry stone retaining wall to the lawn area above. This paved area has two gates so is capable of being a secure area for dogs or small children to stay at house ground floor level and explore outside from the kitchen subject to appropriate supervision.
The lawn and patio dining area sits between 4’ and 5’ above the level of the paved area below and is accessed by two sets of paved stairs both with handrails. There is a drop from lawn level to paving below and we signal this by posts and chain and ask parents and dog owners to take account of the potential risk of falls.
The patio area can be a real sunspot morning and lunchtime as it is south facing. It loses the sun later in the afternoon. We provide a circular patio table, four metal chairs and two wooden chairs. There’s a lovely view over rooftops eastwards down Wensleydale valley from our garden.
Turning left out of the kitchen door you pass our neighbours back door and reach an olive painted door which is our laundry annex. This is an un-heated outbuilding and it contains a washing machine, dryer, and a freezer for your use. There is also a stainless steel ‘industrial’ sink that is ideal for washing off smaller dogs (sorry no hot water in here). You are welcome to store bikes in this lockable room, note we also have brushes and mops and children’s fishing nets and buckets available for your use during the stay.
Our senior neighbours have a shed and an outbuilding on the left hand side of the garden and will be seen. They also have a right to cross the path across the raised grass area (Their house is to the left of our house, their patio, laundry and garage is to the right). They have lived here for over 50 years and you may want to chat to them.
We have tried to provide a good inventory of items in the house and plenty of cutlery, crockery, and other cooking and baking items.
We provide a Hettie vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket, ironing board, iron, airer etc.
For babies / younger children; we can provide on request two stair gates (top and bottom of the stairs), a travel cot (please bring your own mattress, blankets etc), high chair and a fire guard.
Free super fast BT Wi-Fi is installed and it has good signal strength throughout the house,
For dogs we have two dog feeding bowls, and offer dog towels for drying off when arriving home. We offer complimentary dog treats and poo bags.
Over £15,000 has been invested in meeting new fire safety requirements for small accommodation providers. FR30 rated fire doors on every bedroom upstairs and two more internal doors downstairs, wired in smoke / heat / CO detectors throughout the house, emergency lighting in the upstairs hall, and thumb lock twist grips on all exit doors. A fire blanket and a fire extinguisher are provided.
We have a single security video front door bell /camera looking outwards and down The Hill from the cottage. No other cameras are present inside or outside the property within our ownership.
Throughout the house we’ve tried to put up beautiful and relevant art sourced largely locally within The Dales.
We’ve given a lot of though to how we stock the house, all feedback is welcome and we want to continually upkeep and improve the house.
Note we are proud to have used almost entirely local trades and advisers in buying and refurbishing this home and we hope it shows in the quality and feel of the accommodation.
Pricing is 'rate per night' + 'cleaning cost contribution' based on two person occupancy. We charge £6 a night extra per additional guest (up to a maximum of five guests and a baby in total). Babies under two come free. We welcome up to two house trained dogs at no additional costs. We take an authorisation for a £200 security deposit per stay.
