The Byre – a place to be, not just stay
The Byre is one of three beautifully restored cottages within a Victorian barn at The Green in Cumbria’s Eden Valley, just outside the quietly charming village of Ravenstonedale. It’s a place to arrive, exhale, and settle in - whether for a few days or a little longer.
Sleeping four across two ground-floor en-suite bedrooms, The Byre is designed for easy, comfortable living from the moment you walk through the door. Upstairs, the open-plan living space is where time seems to stretch out - with its vaulted ceiling, log burner and tall slate fireplace creating a space that feels both spacious and deeply cosy.
Step outside and you’ll find a private, enclosed courtyard that catches the afternoon sun - perfect for slow lunches or an evening drink. Beyond that, guests can wander down to the beck-side seating area, where water, wildlife and fresh air do most of the work.
The mezzanine offers a quiet, tucked-away snug - soft lighting, blankets and a comfortable sofa creating a space to read, rest or simply switch off.
In the main living area, things shift. With the touch of a button, a ‘secret cinema’ appears - a retractable 100” screen and 4K projector transforming the space for immersive, unhurried evenings. It’s the kind of feature that makes a two or three night stay feel like a proper escape.
Everything here is set up to help you settle quickly and comfortably: underfloor heating, a well-equipped kitchen, WiFi, Alexa, a JBL speaker, games, maps and thoughtful extras throughout. You’ll also have access to our guest app to help you plan as much - or as little - as you like before you arrive.
Dogs are very welcome too, with their own thoughtful touches to make their stay just as easy.
The surrounding area offers plenty to explore - Ravenstonedale is just a mile away, with two excellent pubs, while the wider Eden Valley, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within easy reach. Whether you fill your days with walking, wild swimming and exploring - or simply stay close and slow things down - is entirely up to you.
The Byre has been awarded Five Star Gold by VisitEngland, and The Green was named runner-up in the Cumbria Tourism Awards for Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Business.
Short breaks are where The Byre really comes into its own — a few days to reset, reconnect and enjoy a change of pace.
Three- and four-night stays are available outside peak times, with week-long stays beginning on Fridays.
Additional Information: The Byre can be linked to the neighbouring property; The Haystore to accommodate larger groups of up to 8 such as two families who want to stay together.
