About Beckwell

Beckwell sits in a tranquil corner of Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With plenty of space for up to seven guests, the cottage is located in picturesque Dent village where there are three popular pubs, including the George and the Dragon Inn, which serves the regional speciality, Dent Bitter, that is brewed in the Dent Brewery in nearby Cowgill.

Dent is a pretty village with cobbled streets and authentic northern charm. The village’s three main roads converge at a beautiful pink granite fountain which commemorates Adam Sedgwick, a leading Victorian geologist who was born there. Dent has long been the hub of an active farming community, and you can find out more about the people who shaped the village at the Dent Heritage Centre. Dent train station, which is actually four miles from the village, is the highest train station in England, at 1,100 feet above sea level. It is part of the famous Carlisle to Settle Railway line which crosses the Ribblehead Viaduct and is one of the most scenic routes in Britain.

As well as having the Yorkshire Dales National Park to enjoy, Dent is only 15 miles from the Lake District National Park, and there are miles of footpaths and bridleways to explore. If you have bought new walking boots for the trip, test them out on the 5-mile circular route that passes through Flintergill and Dentdale, or challenge yourself on a hilly 11-mile walk that takes in the three peaks Whernside, Great Coum and Crag Hill.

The Pennine Cycleway (Sustrans route 68) passes through Dent on its 350-mile route between Derby and Berwick-upon-Tweed, and there are also some excellent local loops that explore the countryside around the village. The beautiful River Dee is nearby with lovely riverside walks and fishing.

Beckwell offers all the right ingredients for a relaxing holiday and is a welcoming retreat to return home to after an exciting day exploring this beautiful part of the country.

Accommodation comprises:

  • Ground floor striking open plan lounge with wood burning stove leading through to the dining area and kitchen.
  • Two first floor bedrooms - one double and one en-suite king-size bedroom.
  • First floor bathroom with WC, wash basin and bath.
  • Stairs leading up to the second floor with a fantastic open plan king-size master 'suite' style bedroom with additional living space to one end through an large open doorway where there is a fouton bed which can sleep an additional guest. A high vaulted ceiling and large windows add to the charm of this wonderful area which offers couples a nice place to relax.
  • Big basement with plenty of space to store outdoor and utility equipment (this area can also be accessed from outside the front of the cottage).

Additional information: One pet welcome. Whilst there is unrestricted parking in very close proximity to the property, guests also benefit from the use of a parking permit for a large car park less than 200 yards away from the cottage. Flexible changeover day offered.
