There are so many beautiful beaches in West Cornwall it is hard to know where to head first. The three mile stretch of sand at Hayle beach is a great place to learn to catch some waves. There are plenty of surf schools to choose from and it’s the kind of town you won’t feel out of place walking down the high street in your wetsuit and flip flops. For the ultimate adventure you can also try your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing here. Don’t forget to grab a freshly baked Cornish pasty on your way down to the beach at the infamous Philips Pasties!

Whilst the miles of golden sands and fantastic rock pools also makes Hayle beach a popular spot for families, it’s hard to beat the stunning stretch of sand at Porthcurno for a family day out. The white sand and turquoise sea, backed by rugged granite cliffs, is truly breath-taking. There is also a stream running down the side of the beach which is perfect for kids to paddle in and at low tide you can venture round to the cove at Pedn Vounder. To top off this magical spot, you can end the day watching an open-air performance at Minack Theatre. Tucked into the cliffs and overlooking the ocean, whatever the play, it is unlikely to be a performance you will forget.

If you are looking for more culture head to the quirky town of St Ives. Not only is St Ives blessed with five beautiful sandy beaches, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and surfing, it also has a thriving arts scene. Visit the Tate St Ives, book yourself into an art workshop or enjoy browsing the smaller galleries, independent shops and beachfront cafes. Whilst the combination of a hip arts and trendy surfing scene gives St Ives a unique laidback vibe, it is the panoramic sea vistas that are likely to blow you away. In order to fully appreciate the views, enjoy a scenic stroll along the South West Coastal Path to nearby Carbis Bay – the perfect spot for an ice cream and a dip in the sea. If you are looking for something a bit more adventurous, the wild scenery, dramatic cliffs and secret coves on the 6-mile hike to Zennor should tick the box.

If you are looking for a small slice of Cornish paradise head to the Roseland Peninsula. The tranquil beaches, scenic cliffs and beautiful countryside makes this remote landscape a perfect holiday setting. The vast stretches of sand at Carne and Pendower are perfect for paddling and rock pooling, whilst the pretty fishing village of St Mawes is a great spot to try your hand at sailing, wind surfing or stand up paddle boarding. When you have finished splashing about in the water explore the castle, browse the shops, take a ferry across to Falmouth or enjoy a crab sandwich on the beach. Walkers have the choice of cliffs, riverbanks or wooded countryside whilst the small creeks and valleys are a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

No trip to West Cornwall would be complete without a trip to the Lizard Peninsular, the most southerly point of the UK. Perfect if you are looking to get away from it all, you will find small picturesque coves that are dotted with whitewashed thatched cottages and colourful fishing boats. Taste the salt on your face as you stand on Lizard Point, visit the lighthouse, or catch your supper on a fishing trip.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect romantic getaway, a fisherman’s cottage full of character and charm or a large family pad, our holiday cottages in West Cornwall are perfect to escape the hubbub of everyday life. Wherever you stay, you cannot fail to be captivated by the untamed beauty of this wild and rugged landscape.
