Tyddyn Llafar is in one of the most spectacular spots in Snowdonia. Imagine waking up to views of Llyn Tegid (Lake Bala) and the craggy mountains of Arenig, knowing that you have all day to explore the wonderous natural playground spread at your feet. At night, settle on a deckchair under the stars with the firepit warming your feet. The self-catering holiday cottage is perfect for couples and cosy for solo travellers who love the isolated location yet are only five miles from Bala and have immediate access to footpaths and cycling routes from the door.
Bala is like a magnet, attracting lovers of beauty and adventure to the shores of Wales's largest natural lake. Pretty much any way you can think of to have fun outdoors is on offer here, starting with sailing, paddleboarding, wild swimming, or fishing. This region is Wales' own "Lake District". As well as Llyn Tegid, you have Llyn Efyrnwy, Llyn Celyn, Llyn Brenig and Llyn Efyrnwy (Vyrnwy). And when a dip in the sea or a picnic on the sand calls, you're only about 45 minutes from Barmouth and Aberdovey. Bala sits between the River Dee and Tryweryn, so the conditions are always suitable for something watery.
What if you don't like getting wet? No problem! Play golf or grab your bike for punishing climbs, exhilarating downhills and epic views. You'd need a multi-chapter guidebook to list the incredible footpaths leading from or through Bala. There are too many to list here but trust us when we say it's a lot! Not everyone takes pleasure from an adrenaline rush. Maybe your most profound joy comes from sitting quietly and watching birds like grouse, red kites, hen harriers, and falcons in their natural habitat somewhere like the Berwyn National Nature Reserve.
Welsh is widely and proudly spoken in Bala, Penllyn and the surrounding area. It's a beautiful language dating back thousands of years - far older than English. Its melodic inflexions match the undulating landscape perfectly. However, everyone is bilingual, and signs are written in English and Welsh. This region is rich in Welsh culture and mythology, giving a unique contrast to the adventurous social aspect that appeals to many visitors.
