3 (off peak)
Tan Yr Allt is in the geographic heart of Snowdonia, surrounding you with scenery so beautiful you'll want to spend every waking minute looking at it. The gorgeous stone Snowdonia holiday cottage sleeps eight people in four spacious bedrooms with the potential to squeeze in two or three more kids if you're on holiday with friends or your extended family. Tan Yr Allt roughly translates to at the bottom of a hill, which perfectly describes the setting of this traditional 17th Welsh longhouse on the edge of Trawsfynydd village. It's protected by a hillside with an elevated position that provides sensational views from both the house and the acre of gardens.
Trawsfynydd could not be more perfect as a base from which to explore Snowdonia. The quiet village is close to some of the region's best mountain bike trails at Antur Stiniog and Coed y Brenin Forest Park. The vast lake (Llyn Trawsfunydd or Traws Lake) is a favourite place for trout fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Birds and other wildlife thrive in the protected environment so take your binoculars when you walk around the lake to see how many different species you can spot.
Days out can include a journey on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highlands Railway to Porthmadog on the coast, passing breathtaking highland sights along the way. Drive an hour to Llanberis and the base of Snowdon, where you can take a train or walk to Wales' highest peak. Booking for both trains is highly recommended. Adventure lovers will appreciate being able to go surfing, gorge walking, paddle boarding and mountain biking, and being within easy reach of Bala and attractions like the National White Water Centre, Zip World, and Snowdonia Adventure Parc.
With an acre of grounds that include a stream and a children's summer house, you don't have to leave Tan Yr Allt to have a fun and memorable day with your favourite people. The owners have thoughtfully provided outdoor games like skittles and archery, and the gardens are ideal for playing tag, hide-and-seek or simply relaxing with a good book.
Snowdonia is a fantastic year-round holiday destination with lots of outdoor and all-weather activities that make it easy to plan fun-filled days. At night, settle back and enjoy skies free of light pollution or snuggle up indoors, light the log burner and put on a film. Well-behaved dogs are welcome downstairs, and the owner provides dog bowls for food and water.
