About Tyddyn

Tyddyn is a spacious holiday cottage sleeping up to seven guests in three bedrooms with hot tub. Nestling amongst some five acres of private grounds, the cottage is perfect for families and groups of friends who enjoy being active with plenty of outdoor adventures available and the convenience of Builth Wells with its cafes, great pubs and restaurants a mile away. A century old, Tyddyn has been beautifully modernised to offer the perfect mix of traditional charm with modern conveniences, ensuring a high standard of comfort for guests.

Builth Wells is a friendly mid-Wales town best known for hosting the annual Royal Welsh Show. It has very good facilities including two small supermarkets, pubs, cafes and a variety of independent shops and boutiques. It is so convenient, that you can easily obtain everything you need for a self-catering holiday, without being overly noisy or busy. Builth Wells also has a cinema, theatre and art gallery, and there is a mainline train station two miles from the town centre if you prefer not to drive. For those looking for more variety, Llandrindod Wells is around a 15-minute drive away, with direct links by train and bus. Both Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells have excellent golf courses that welcome visitors.

This part of Wales has an undeniable beauty and the best way to appreciate it is not from the sidelines! Even the most slothful guest will find it hard to resist a walk along the beautiful River Wye. Walk over the bridge (built in 1779) and make your way to The Groe, the pretty park beside the river where there is ample space to sit quietly or kick a ball around. Guests seeking a more challenging route will enjoy the 10 mile walk from Builth to Crossgates y Groes from where you can catch the bus or train back; or head to the hills and follow a circular route that includes part of the long-distance Wye Valley Walk footpath on the way to Pant y Lyn and Banc y Celyn.

Builth Wells is just north of the Brecon Beacons and surrounded by gorgeous Welsh countryside. There are endless opportunities for walking, cycling and mountain biking, as well as a choice of local stables where you can saddle up and take to the hills. If you have the legs for it, going along the Dragon’s Back ridge from Pengenffordd village and up Waun Fach will give you outstanding views.

In addition to Builth and Llandrindod Wells, nearby market towns to see include Rhayader, Brecon and Llanwrtyd Wells, which has the title of being the smallest town in Britain. Within an hour’s drive are also Crickhowell, Abergavenny, Hay-on-Wye, Llandovery and the Elan Valley, while Aberystwyth and Hereford are not much further.

After a busy day, it will be a pleasure to return to such a comfortable cottage where you can sit outside and stargaze or stretch out in front of the log burning stove.
