Pippins is in a spectacular location with incredible views in every direction. The 17th Century granary has been converted with exceptional care and attention to detail. You'll love waking up each morning to the sight of rolling hills so intensely green there will be no doubt you're in Wales. The two-bedroom holiday home sleeps four people and one well-behaved dog and is popular with couples and families. It's in an idyllic location set in 16 acres of pasture land near Penybont. You'll have all the benefits of a rural retreat with the convenience of being just 15 minutes from the border town of Llandrindod Wells.
Llandrindod Wells, known as "Llandod" by locals, is a former spa town with elegant buildings and excellent amenities for a self-catering stay. In addition to two supermarkets, it has a choice of places to eat, drink and shop, including a regular Friday market. The town is home to a small but well-curated museum dedicated to all things cycling and the Radnorshire Museum that specialises in the local area's history. Llandrindod Wells also has a popular 18-hole golf course and a lake for fishing, walking, cycling and birdwatching.
The Welsh Marches, particularly the area around Pippins, is famous for its walking and cycling trails. A fantastic walk to start your holiday is from the cottage to the top of Castle Hill. Though little remains of Cefnllys Castle but a few stones and ditches, the 360-degree views from the hilltop will take your breath away. Another lovely walk from the cottage follows the course of the River Ithon past the 13th Century St Michael's Church. The river's clean waters are home to otters, dippers, and kingfishers, while guests can see red kites and buzzards from the cottage windows and garden.
You can happily park the car and spend your days exploring on foot or by bicycle when you stay at Pippins. However, it would be a shame not to see the stunning Elan Valley, half an hour by car. Recognised as an International Dark Sky Park, it has walking and cycling trails, a big cafe/visitor centre, and more of the heartbreakingly beautiful views that make mid-Wales such an excellent choice for a relaxing holiday. Other attractions to add to your holiday wish list include the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Rhayader, the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre, and the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Further afield is the Bwlch Nant yr Arian visitor centre, Devil's Bridge and Waterfalls near Aberystwyth, and the charming book town of Hay on Wye.
Holiday bookings at Pippins are available all year round. It's a gorgeous spot in all seasons, whether you're timing your visit with the Hay Book Festival in Spring, the Royal Welsh Show in summer, as a sneaky break in autumn, or enjoying the glorious winter beauty of Powys over Christmas.
