Buttermere Cottage has been part of the Lake District landscape for centuries. The former stone hayloft dates back to at least 1654 and is now a welcoming holiday cottage where couples and individual travellers can enjoy incredible views and five-star gold standard accommodation. It is one of three superb Crummockwater Cottages at Foulsyke in Loweswater. You have fantastic fell walking and cycling from the door but, because Foulsyke is away from the main tourist trail, you'll often be the only person in sight. The one-bedroom cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, but there's an award-winning pub within a 10-minute stroll if you don't want to cook.
Foulsyke was originally an old manor house dating back as far as the 1500s to a time when the stone was quarried locally and carved by hand to craft buildings built to suit the demands of the Lake District weather. Thick stone walls have been updated with every modern convenience to ensure they are a place where you can relax and be happy as you explore the valleys of Buttermere, Loweswater, Lorton and beyond. You'll love sitting in the garden or the conservatory and watching birds and red squirrels that frequent the cottage grounds. Walking from the cottage is a delight. The owner has lived (and walked) in the area for many years and has provided a wealth of local knowledge to help you plan the perfect excursion. Low Fell is directly behind Foulsyke and routes at the front lead to Melbreak, Whiteside, Grasmoor and the Buttermere fells. Whether you prefer a gentle stroll or a day-long expedition to as many peaks as possible, there's a route for everyone.
Buttermere Cottage is perfect for cyclists, having secure bike storage and facilities for washing and drying bikes and kit. Road cyclists will love the challenging mountain passes, while mountain bikers can make the most of the extensive network of bridleways and purpose-built mountain bike trails like those at Whinlatter and Grizedale. Fishing, boating, wild swimming and birdwatching are other activities readily accessible to guests.
Bookings are available all year round. Depending on availability, Buttermere can be booked with one or both of the other cottages to accommodate separate families on holiday together.

Buttermere Cottage is a charming, ground floor cottage with period features and modern conveniences.
Outside: West-facing patio with a table and chairs so you can unwind with a drink as the sun sets. There is secure bike storage (please let the owners know when booking if you need access) and allocated parking.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted.
