Loweswater Cottage at Foulsyke deserves every one of the five glittering gold stars awarded by Visit England to recognise the exceptional standard of accommodation. The three-bedroom cottage sleeps six and is perfect for families, including extended families who appreciate that one of the bedrooms is upstairs with its ensuite bathroom. The views from Foulsyke are some of the best in the Lake District. Step out of your front door to the stunning view of Crummock Water and the fells and spend happy nights counting stars in some of the most brilliant night skies you can imagine. The welcoming Kirkstile Inn is barely a ten-minute walk from the door, with a full menu of delicious food and award-winning craft ales.
Many people who stay at Loweswater Cottage choose it for its proximity to fantastic footpaths and mountain bike trails. However, if you're not a keen outdoors person and you prefer your walk to be more of a stroll around a lovely garden, you'll still find plenty of sights and attractions to fill your holiday with beauty and joy. Sail around Derwentwater in comfort on a Keswick Launch, go bird watching at Bassenthwaite Ospreys, take in a performance at the Theatre by the Lake, or tempt your tastebuds with a tour and some lunch after a tasting at the Lakes Distillery. Fans of Beatrix Potter can visit her home at Hill Top and the Lingholm Estate, where she first fell in love with the Lake District and whose kitchen garden inspired the setting for "The Tale of Peter Rabbit". Other local attractions include the Honister Slate Mines, Wordsworth House and Mirehouse.
Enthusiastic walkers will be beside themselves with excitement when they see the enormous choice of routes from the door, including Low Fell, Melbreak, Whiteside and Grasmoor. Alternatively, enjoy a lower level walk around the local lakes at Buttermere, Loweswater, or Crummock. The Honister Rambler bus service opens up even more of the Lake District landscape including the Borrowdale Valley and Derwentwater. The owner has stocked the cottage with maps and other information about the local area to provide you with even more inspiration. Mountain bikers can use the extensive network of bridleways around the national park and have fun on purpose-built trails at Whinlatter and Grizedale. Road cyclists can also be out from dawn until dusk, happily following the C2C route that passes Foulsyke, tackling challenging mountain passes, or enjoying the more level routes towards the coast.
Foulsyke has three cottages, all of the same high standard as Loweswater Cottage. Depending on availability, they can be booked together to accommodate families or extended families of up to 12 people.
