Yew Tree Cottage - Hyde, Hampshire, The New Forest, England - Sleeps 8+2

Yew Tree Cottage

Yew Tree Cottage dates back some four hundred years and is a detached four bedroom thatched holiday cottage located within the 'cattle grid' area of the New Forest National Park. The cottage has Wi-Fi internet access, sits within half an acre of gardens and is well placed for those who want to explore the forest by foot with forest walks starting from the front door.

The back garden is in a sunny position and there is a picnic table, providing an ideal place for enjoying a barbecue (whilst there is a brick BBQ provided, it is recommended that you bring your own disposable BBQ as the cleanliness of the one provided cannot be guaranteed). There is plenty of room for recreational activities and at the far end of the lawn, it slopes away to a small clear water stream, providing a popular place for children to play (under supervision at your own responsibility). There is also a summerhouse which is used to store garden tools so out-of-bounds to guests.

The surrounding area is quiet with little passing traffic and the cottage is accessed via a gravel lane. Located in Hyde Village, Yew Tree Cottage is near to Hyde Common and has two pubs within half a mile walk. The area has plenty of attractions within easy reach and much to offer outdoor enthusiasts with fishing, horse riding, walking and cycling the little lanes and forest tracks. There is also plenty of wildlife to watch including the famous New Forest ponies which can be seen wandering the lanes and forest.

Other places of interest within driving distance providing a great day out are Stonehenge, Beaulieu Motor Museum, the Cathedral City of Salisbury, Lymington, Bouremouth with its beaches and the Isle of Wight, along with plenty of historic homes and gardens.

Yew Tree Cottage Continued

Yew Tree Cottage has lots of original character with oak beams, Inglenook fireplace and low beams and doorways. Rooms are cosy and compact, leaving you with little doubt about its past history as a traditional forester's cottage.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

  • Lounge with large Inglenook fireplace as the focal point, seating for seven on a variety of chairs and colour television.
  • Dining room seating eight comfortably.
  • Kitchen with electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and cooking utensils.
  • Downstairs cloakroom with automatic washing machine and WC.
  • Bathroom with shower over bath and wash basin.
  • Wide area of hallway at the foot of the stairs which can be used as a play area, or as an additional sleeping space for children (with the use of the two camp beds and a cot available). However, it is considered that eight is the ideal maximum number of guests for comfort and rental is based on this number.

Upstairs

  • Bathroom with WC, bidet, wash basin and a heated towel rail.
  • Two double bedrooms.
  • One twin bedroom.
  • Bunkbed room (beds can be positioned side by side as a twin or stacked).

Additional information: This is a no-smoking cottage. Well behaved dogs are welcome (£30 fouling penalty for the garden applies). An initial £5 electrical float on the meter card is provided for your first night but you will then need to go into town to top it up. Duvets, pillows and blankets are provided but you must bring bed linen and towels (linen hire for overseas visitors or those travelling via public transport can be arranged). Free logs are supplied from September until the end of May and there are electric storage heaters throughout the cottage to ensure guests comfort.

Please Note: The cottage is four hundred years old with much of its original 'olde worlde' character. It is a much-loved family home and is furnished to a basic, comfortable and homely standard. It has a high level of returning guests who come to enjoy the lovely setting and character of the cottage but if 'rustic' and 'quaint' are not what you are looking for - it is recommended that you do not book this cottage. You are more than welcome to make an appointment to view the cottage prior to booking should you have any concerns about the points raised.
