A warm welcome awaits at Mary’s Barn which can accommodate up to four guests in comfort. Set in the grounds of the owners listed thatched property with off-road parking, away from traffic and light pollution. The barn is located in the Hampshire village of Minstead in the very heart of the New Forest National Park.
With lots of character and all on one level Mary’s Barn is tastefully furnished providing a comfortable retreat all the year round for couples, friends and families. The enclosed large garden is fun to play in or just enjoy the sunshine and peace. You will be joined by birds, bees and butterflies in daylight then bats, foxes, hedgehogs and owls at night. You are quite likely to spot deer in the surrounding fields and hear then see the buzzards overhead. Ponies, cattle and donkeys wander by with pigs arriving in autumn to eat the acorns.
The surrounding area has immense appeal for those who enjoy outdoor activities with miles and miles of forest tracks and heathland to explore by foot, bike or horseback. Set off from the barn where you can access forest walks and rides nearby and within five minutes at Acres Down, or wander into Minstead where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Trusty Servant village pub just half a mile away. There is also a community shop in Minstead for forgotten provisions and a farm shop at Acres Down serving cream teas in the summer months and selling provisions.
Just three miles away is Lyndhurst, the ‘Capital of the Forest’ with a great range of shops, eating establishments and tourist information with a museum ( why not take a bus tour from here to see the local sights?). The Georgian town of Lymington is a half hour drive and offers a good range of shops, both independents and high street names with plenty of places to enjoy a meal out. Lymington has an excellent Saturday market and the ferry to the Isle of Wight. Beaulieu with its famous motor museum and Bucklers Hard are within easy reach by car as is the coast for those who fancy a day on the beach. Slightly further afield, but still within an hours drive are Salisbury with its beautiful cathedral and historic Winchester. You may be interested in Sammy Millers motorbike museum, Mudeford (for crab fishing), Paultons Park for youngsters and Bournemouth for its vast sandy beach. Bicycle hire and riding stables are possibilities too.
