The Shepherd's Hut sleeps two guests and offers something a little different and special in terms of self-catering. Ideally placed in a lovely peaceful setting in the picturesque Test Valley, Hampshire, this quirky retreat has spectacular country views and the shared use of a fantastic outdoor pool (heated in the warmer months), making it a fun and popular choice for couples.
A welcoming retreat from which to relax, the rural setting is abundant with wildlife including rare butterflies, varied birds and even deer that can be seen within the oak forest and amongst the hills - a real oasis of calm and wonderland to explore!
Located off a peaceful country lane, The Shepherd's Hut is an easy walk to the village store and there is a local nursery a short drive away that serves a fabulous breakfast (a gas BBQ is provided for those who want to cook). There are also numerous award-winning eateries locally and for those who enjoy a fine culinary experience, The Greyhound (Michelin Pub of the Year 2014!) is situated only eight miles away in Stockbridge (known as 'Hampshire's Little London').
Ideal for walkers, there are a network of footpaths and byways just waiting to be explored directly from the door, and the Monarch and Clarendon Way are within easy reach. For those who enjoy cycling, the National cycle route (number twenty four) passes through the village and for the fishermen amongst you, the renowned rivers Test and Dun nearby provide excellent opportunities. There are also several golf courses close by along with horse riding.
Nestling amongst farmland and rolling hills on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border, The Shepherd's Hut is within easy driving distance of Salisbury, Southampton, Winchester, the market town of Romsey and the New Forest National Park with its many attractions. There are ancient market towns and pretty quintessentially English villages with thatched cottages to explore, along with many attractions including: Marwell Zoo with its vast selection of endangered and exotic animals; the stately home of Wilton House with its internationally important collection of art and beautiful parkland; the City of Portsmouth steeped in maritime history and the Isle of Wight which is great for a day trip and ferry ride. Bournemouth (forty minutes by car), Bath and London by train are also easily accessible.
