Grebe Cottage is surrounded by almost 250 acres of picturesque fields and meadows north of the New Forest National Park. It provides a high standard of accommodation for up to four guests in two bedrooms and is ideal for couples or families who appreciate the beauty of the location just a mile from the pretty town of Fordingbridge and within walking distance of its medieval arched bridge and the 18th Century riverside pub, The George.
Fordingbridge is an excellent base for exploring the New Forest. Not only does it have lovely walks alongside the Avon river, but it is also on the long-distance Avon Valley Path that crosses through the beautiful and ancient landscape between Christchurch and Salisbury. There are many wonderful walks in the New Forest, with something to suit every ability, so even if you are only staying for a short time, you can walk beneath the canopies and imagine what it would have been like when the forest was a hunting ground for kings.
Cycling and horse riding are two other favourite New Forest activities, and you can arrange bike hire from one of several local businesses or book a trek with a nearby riding school. Don't be surprised to see wildlife roaming freely through the countryside or even in the villages - native horses, donkeys, deer, pigs and even cows are free-range, with park authorities keeping an eye on their health and well-being.
Go Ape provides an adrenaline thrill with the high ropes course, while the fun inflatable course at the New Forest Water Park is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer's day. The National Motor Museum will tempt any motoring enthusiast, while a visit to the historical town of Buckler's Hard is always enjoyable. Portsmouth, Stonehenge and Beaulieu Abbey are all within easy reach, or you could take the passenger ferry over the Solent for a day trip to the Isle of Wight.
Of course, with the beautiful Burgate Manor Farm estate on your doorstep, you don't have to go anywhere to enjoy the birds and wildlife. The owners have created a series of paths going through water meadows and beside fields, and you can arrange a fishing permit to try your luck at catching carp, roach or pike. There is plenty of room for running and playing, with an enormous indoor games barn with activities to keep everyone happy.
Grebe Cottage is one of seven superb self-catering properties on Burgate Manor Farm which can be booked individually or together to accommodate up to 54 people.
