Whether you are looking to challenge yourself to scale some of the tallest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, or you are simply after leisurely strolls whilst enjoying the stunning scenery there are countless walking options whilst on holiday in Yorkshire. Ingleborough, the second highest mountain in Yorkshire, is a popular hike for the more adventurous two and four legged family members. Taking you through woods, rivers, rocky peaks and a fascinating natural caving system you can enjoy some of the best scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. The huge stalactites and stalagmites are definitely worth stopping to see and dogs are welcome in the Ingleborough Caves too. Alternatively, explore the beautiful woodlands and impressive waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls, followed by a well-earned drink at the dog friendly Wheatsheaf. If you are holidaying in the North York Moors, the Hole of Horcum, a five mile circular route around the natural amphitheatre is a popular choice, or for a change of scenery head to the coast and walk a section of the Cleveland Way. There are several beaches that are dog friendly all year round including the stretch of sand at Robin Hoods Bay, where you will also find a number of dog friendly pubs and restaurants to refuel.
If you are looking to keep the whole family entertained the natural playground and dramatic rock formations at Brimham Rocks, near Nidderdale, is a perfect day out. Or the 30,000 acre estate at the 12th century priory at Bolton Abbey not only has 80 miles of footpaths but also adventure trails and fishing along the banks of the River Wharfe. On a warm day this is an ideal spot for a paddle and picnic. Dogs are also welcome at Skipton Castle where they can join you in exploring the well-preserved medieval fortress before enjoying a walk at Skipton Castle Woods. Other dog friendly family days out include taking a ride on the North York Moors Railway, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park, and the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park.
With a large selection of dog friendly cottages to rent, however you decide to spend your days in this wild yet beautiful landscape, your four-legged friends can enjoy the holiday too!
