Garden Cottage is as idyllic as it gets. The charming stone holiday cottage hides away in a quiet spot at the end of the owner's garden. Guests love the period character of the cottage, which consists of a handcrafted kitchen for simple self-catering and a double bedroom under the eaves. It's perfect for couples and welcoming to solo visitors who need peace and privacy to relax yet do not want to feel isolated. The location is so peaceful you'll hardly believe that you're merely a short stroll from the centre of Wiveliscombe (known as "Wivey") with amenities that include The Bear Inn and a buzzing Saturday morning market.
Outdoor enthusiasts have a choice of landscapes to explore, each location as beautiful as the last. Whatever your interests, you will love Wiveliscombe. The village is at the base of the Brendon Hills, midway between the Quantocks and Exmoor National Park and north of the Blackdown Hills. You're only 12 miles from Watchet, where you can join the stunning South West Coast Path that starts in Minehead and snakes its way for 630 miles around to Poole Harbour. The scope for walking, mountain biking and horse riding along traffic-free routes is almost endless. All of that activity is sure to build a healthy thirst. Wivey's has three breweries, including the pub's microbrewery. The quality of Somerset food is exceptional. It is worth getting up early to catch the 9am start of Wivey's Friday market, but local shops also stock local produce.
Wiveliscombe wears its past proudly in the carefully preserved Victorian shopfronts, home to locally-owned shops and galleries. There are around 300 independent businesses within five miles of the village - whatever it is you're after, you're likely to find someone providing it. Taunton is only ten miles away if you need a bigger range of places to eat, drink and shop, though it's also worth visiting nearby Milverton. If it's history you're after, many villages have impressive churches, and you're only an hour from Glastonbury and Wells Cathedral.
Garden Cottage is comfortable and welcoming for guests in all seasons.
