Uiginish Lodge is a stunning holiday house sitting in a truly spectacular position overlooking Dunvegan Loch and Castle on the Isle of Skye. Sleeping twelve guests in six comfortable bedrooms, it is perfect for large family self-catering holidays or a get together with a group of friends. The huge open plan kitchen and living area, which stretches the entire length of the house, is the perfect sociable space for lazy morning coffees, long leisurely lunches or an evening drink with the chef. It’s unlikely that you will tire of cooking in this gorgeous kitchen, but if you want a night off, the Three Chimneys restaurant is just two miles away or seafood lovers should head to the Stein Inn or Lochbay Seafood restaurant in Stein.
The woodburning stove ensures Uiginish Lodge is kept cosy year-round, whilst the comfortable snug and library are perfect to retreat to with a good book or to snuggle up in front of the TV. With views of either the loch or mountains from each bedroom you would be forgiven for having that extra cup of tea in bed each morning. Or hardy souls can stroll across the lawn and enjoy a pre-breakfast swim in the sea. Located at the end of a single-track road, your only neighbours are sheep and the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle lapping of the sea. The three-acre garden is a lovely spot to relax and at the bottom of the lawn you can cross a field to reach the rocky seashore where there are also fantastic views of Dunvegan Castle.
When you are ready to leave this fantastic house and gardens there are plenty of walks to explore along the shore, up high on the cliffs or in the mountains. The Tables of MacLeod are just a few minutes away in the car, or half an hour away keen walkers can explore the mighty Cuillins. If you are looking for something with a bit less ‘up’, the walk to Coral Beach, just north of Dunvegan, is perfect for little legs looking for an adventure. Pack a picnic and make a day of it. The beach, which is made from crushed white coral, looks tropical when the sun comes out. You might even be tempted for a swim! From Dunvegan Castle you can also take a boat trip. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident seals! Or head to the other side of the peninsular to the lighthouse at Neist Point. Take your binoculars and see if you can spot a variety of sea birds – or even a whale if you are lucky. If you want to venture further afield you can even take a boat trip to visit the islands of Muck, Rhum and Eigg for the day.
Slightly further afield but still within driving distance is the Quiraing with views that will stay with you forever, the Fairy Pools (don't forget your towel if you are feeling brave enough for the plunge) and Tallisker Distillery for those all important holiday gifts! It is also possible to take a boat trip to the World UNESCO site of St Kilda.
