About Auld Mission Cottage

Auld Mission Cottage is a beautifully renovated 19th‑century former mission hall on the elevated Waternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. This inviting holiday home blends heritage stonework with contemporary comforts—electric heating throughout, a warming multi‑fuel stove in the lounge, and modern bathroom facilities. With accommodation all on one level (apart from a few stone steps down from the parking), it sleeps up to four guests in two bedrooms, and is especially well suited to families or couples seeking peace, coastal views, and dog‑friendly features. It’s also within walking distance of the local Inn and outstanding local food.

Set less than a mile from the charming once fishing hamlet of Stein, guests will find Skye’s oldest Inn —the Stein Inn—alongside Skye’s only Michelin starred Loch Bay Restaurant. From the slipway you can enjoy boat trips and whale, dolphin and sea bird spotting in Lochbay and beyond. Also locally there are some wonderful craft galleries, including Scotland’s only surviving tannery. Waternish retains an unspoilt character, where stargazing, shoreline walks and slow exploration feel anything but touristy. Essential shops are in Dunvegan (around 7 miles away), while Portree, the island’s main town, is approximately 22–24 miles away, providing access to larger amenities.

From Auld Mission Cottage, you can head out to explore the broader Isle of Skye: wildlife cruises, historic Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point Lighthouse, and the Trotternish Ridge are all within easy reach. Gentle coastal walks or more strenuous mountain trails around the Cuillin offer something for every pace. Evening sunsets across Loch Bay, and sometimes even aurora sightings under Skye’s dark skies, round out the perfect balance of relaxation and natural discovery.
