Auld Orwell Cottage sits in an elevated position, not far onto the peninsular of Waternish in the far north West of the Isle of Skye. It offers very comfortable accommodation with stunning views through the day, which can become amazing sunsets. In the autumn and winter these can then become wonderful, clear starry nights.
Auld Orwell Cottage has three comfortable bedrooms. Upstairs there is a double and a twin and a bathroom with a separate shower cubicle. Downstairs there is an accessible bedroom with a king double which may also be as a twin on request. The shower room next door is also accessible. The sitting room and dining room are open plan, with plenty of room. There is Sky TV, window seating and a newly fitted log burning stove. The kitchen has been newly renovated with all mod cons. Large enclosed garden area - best to keep gates closed to keep occasional sheep and deer out! Spectacular views, sunsets and stars. Electric car charger available.
Near at hand are some interesting craft and art galleries, some offering classes. A bit further is the only sheepskin tannery in Scotland where you can see how it happens and then buy something warm and cosy. They have an unusual coffee shop where you can recover. Heading down to Stein you pass a farm which offers fascinating nature walks. At Stein there is the oldest Inn on Skye, a gallery and then Skye’s only Michelin starred restaurant - but it must be booked well in advance. At the jetty there are boat trips, especially a day’s adventure to the UNESCO protected islands of St Kilda. While things are changing slowly, Waternish is still a crofting community and you should keep your dogs on the lead when out and about.
Skye is renowned for high mountains and spectacular scenery, including some famous visitor attractions. Waternish has less adventurous walking but still spectacular with the potential for sightings in the sea and in the air.
The cottage is well placed to enjoy Waternish and the Isle of Skye.
