Location (The Scottish Islands)

CREPIGILL COTTAGE

Crepigill Cottage is an attractive and historic one-storey self-catering cottage for 2 guests and is one of only 8 houses in the crofting township of Crepigill, in the Parish of Skeabost, approximately 5 miles (8km) north west of Portree, the capital of Skye. With a private car parking space and set within a pretty fenced cottage garden, it is ideally located for touring the magical island of Skye and for boat trips to the Outer Isles. Like us, many of our guests fall in love with this little cottage which was built about 200 years ago as a blacksmith's smithy alongside the old road to Dunvegan from Portree. It now stands in an elevated position above the newer road and has wonderful panoramic views towards the 'soft' side of The Storr, Ben Tianavaig above Portree and, further away across the River Snizort, the Black Cuillins, Skye's world famous mountains (see photos).

From the garden path a bright yellow front door leads straight into the modern dining kitchen with all facilities, including electric cooker, fridge, microwave and automatic washing machine. From the kitchen a door leads into a central hallway which gives access to the small comfortable and brightly furnished sitting room where TV, DVD and CD player, local books and games as well as other comprehensive visitor information, including a history of the cottage and surrounding area, are all provided. Information about the local meadow flowers and the rocks of Skye have also been compiled by the owners and samples of Skye rocks are displayed in the garden.

The bedroom has a delightfully draped large double bed, wardrobe and drawers and the shower room is a light spacious room. All rooms feature pictures painted by local artists.

The fenced garden with lawn, mature trees, shrubs, bulbs and herbaceous plants surrounds the cottage. It features a washing pole as well as a picnic bench for outdoor eating or evening drinks as well as labelled samples of different rocks found on the island of Skye. A small shed houses folding chairs and is a useful space for storing a bicycle, muddy boots, fishing gear, golf clubs etc.

A short walk from the cottage leads to the historic St Columba's Isle with its ruins of the medieval Cathedral of The Isles, medieval knight grave slabs and a mortuary chapel. Other short walks lead to the Clach Ard pictish stone or to the top of Caroline Hill for views back to Crepigill and the nearby township of Borve. The historic Skeabost House Hotel with its own golf course is also nearby for breakfast, afternoon tea or evening meals when a break from self-catering is preferred.

We, and our local housekeeper, make every effort to help our guests feel at home and we are pleased to give any help and advice before and during your stay.

Packed with character and history, this charming holiday let is an idyllic cottage that you may lose your heart to the moment you see it. Come and see for yourself - the cottage is a little gem.
