Manesty Dairy was once a place for making butter. Built in around 1905, this part of the farmhouse has now been transformed into a welcoming holiday home for couples with lovely views of the surrounding woodland and the Borrowdale fells. It is one of the owners' several fantastic Lake District holiday cottages, enjoying peace and privacy with the ability to be hired together with one or more of the other cottages to accommodate larger groups if required.
Manesty Cottages are close to the southern shores of Derwent Water near Keswick in the north of the Lake District. There has been a dwelling of some sort on the land for centuries, with the farm dating back to Furness Abbey's wool producing empire. The buildings sit comfortably in this timeless landscape, providing a wonderful place to stay while you explore this most beautiful part of Britain. Exploring is easy, as memorable walks lead from the door to famous places like Catbells and the Bowder Stone, and quieter fell tops and walks such as Kings How and Brund Fell, High Spy and the Newlands Horseshoe.
Whether your favourite sort of walk is a sunny stroll or you are happy to explore regardless of the weather or the season, your perfect route is here and waiting for you. The owners have helpfully provided leaflets and maps in the cottage, and they can also recommend a local guide to help you get off the beaten track and experience the raw beauty of the fells in safety. Cycling is another favourite way to get around, whether you enjoy the sweeping roads or want to test your skills on the trails at Skiddaw and Whinlatter Forest Park. Horse riding, canoeing, sailing, rock climbing and golf are all popular outdoor activities - you need never feel bored on holiday here!
At five and a half miles away, along a picturesque lakeside road, Keswick is the nearest town to Manesty Dairy. It is a friendly community that is welcoming to regular and first-time visitors alike, offering a wide variety of places to shop, eat and drink. Keswick attractions include Derwent Water Marina, Keswick Museum, the Derwent Pencil Museum, the Puzzling Place and the Theatre by the Lake. The Lakes Wildlife Park and Lakes Distillery are nearby, as is Go Ape. Wander through the ancient stones of Castlerigg Stone Circle or go to the slate mine at Honister. The heady height of Scafell Pike is within easy reach, as are the villages and towns of the southern Lakes, allowing you to experience your dream Lake District holiday, whatever that may be.
