Catbells View (was The Old Barn) Rowling End is located at Rowling End Farm and is an idyllic retreat for up to six people. Sympathetically developed, the annex type 4-Star cottage provides comfortable accommodation in a glorious peaceful setting.
Lake Derwentwater is a pleasant fifteen minute walk away across the fields and from here you can catch a ferry to Keswick. The cottage provides a superb starting point for a number of Lakeland walks and is an an excellent base for exploring the areas many attractions whether you want to discover the beauty of the lakes, the high fells or purely relax amongst glorious scenery. Direct access to the fells and some of Wainwrights favourite walks - including Catbells, the Newlands Round and the Coledale Round can be enjoyed directly from The Annex.
Dogs have always enhanced the owner's family’s enjoyment of walking and you are very welcome to bring your own dog to share your holiday with you.
The village of Braithwaite is only three miles from Rowling End with a choice of three pubs for a pint or meal out, and a village store for forgotten provisions. Across the fields (only one mile or alternatively walk down the lane) the Swinside Inn provides a warm welcome serving excellent food and drink.
Wainwright saw Newland’s 'greatest blessing' as the peace and freedom that the valley brings where you can escape the commercialisation of busier tourist areas. Today this beautiful area continues to offer an undisturbed oasis of calm where you can enjoy a relaxed pace that has changed very little over the years. Until the 1950s, Rowling End was a working farm, and is surrounded by lush pasture land where cattle and sheep peacefully graze.
Whilst Catbells View Rowling End is in a delightful secluded position, it has a wealth of attractions within easy reach being centrally located in the heart of the Northern Lakes with Borrowdale, Derwentwater, Buttermere and Keswick easily accessible - whether you explore by bike, on foot or in the car.
Keen walkers will love the hike up Catbells (located directly opposite) which offers magnificent views where on a clear day you can see the Solway Firth.
The land surrounding Catbells View provides a haven for wildlife including buzzard and deer. You are also welcome to walk the fields but need to be mindful of any livestock and leave the wildlife undisturbed.
There are plenty of things to do and see in this area to keep all ages amused, including: Honister slate mines; Borrowdale Go Ape; Braithwaite Keswick Climbing Wall; Whinlatter Forest; Cumberland pencil museum; The puzzling place; Newlands Adventure centre; Keswick Mire House; Keswick Trotters world of animals; Keswick Alhambra cinema; Keswick Launch ferry and Thronthwate Galleries.
For those who want to venture a little further afield, Penrith is twenty one miles, Carlisle thirty five miles and Workington is twenty miles.
