Over Brandlehow is a gorgeous family-size holiday cottage sleeping six, with breathtaking views across Derwentwater and the Borrowdale Valley. Part of Fellside Cottages near Manesty, this retreat is perfectly placed for walking, wildlife spotting and switching off in style. Inside, the warm colour palette, natural textures and a beautifully crafted oak kitchen create a welcoming, lived-in feel. The sociable open-plan layout is great for families, with three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a comfortable sitting area that opens onto a sunny Lakeland slate terrace. Whether you’re warming up after a fell walk or planning your next outing over breakfast with a view, it’s a fantastic place to slow down and reconnect.
The cottage sits on the lower slopes of Catbells, one of the most-loved family-friendly walks in the Lakes. From the door, a peaceful woodland trail leads down through Manesty Woods to the lakeshore, where you can hop on a Keswick Launch boat or paddle from the beach at Brandelhow. The views from here are magical—think mirror-like water, open fells and the iconic silhouette of Skiddaw in the distance. Back at the cottage, you’ll often spot red squirrels and woodpeckers in the garden, and you’re a short walk from the Allerdale Ramble and other scenic trails towards Grange, Portinscale and the Newlands Valley. There’s no shortage of outdoor adventures, but you’re just as welcome to relax on the terrace with a glass of something cold.
A fifteen-minute drive takes you to Keswick, where you’ll find everything from quirky cafés and climbing walls to boat hire, an excellent theatre and the much-loved Pencil Museum. There’s also Whinlatter Forest Park nearby for family cycling, treetop trails and the ever-popular Go Ape. Further afield, visit Honister Slate Mine, cast your eyes skyward at Osprey Watch on Bassenthwaite, or explore Grasmere, Ambleside or Ullswater—all easily reachable for a day trip. After a day of adventuring, head back to Over Brandlehow to put your feet up, share stories around the big oak table, and watch the sun fade behind the fells. With so much on the doorstep and a peaceful setting that feels far from the crowds, it’s no wonder guests return time and again.
