Living
Sunrising Cottage is sheltered from the Atlantic behind dunes, with the sound of the sea never far away and a sandy footpath leading straight from the garden gate to Croyde Beach in barely a five-minute stroll. From inside the cottage, you catch glimpses of the ocean through a natural break in the dunes, a gentle reminder of just how close the shoreline is. Step outside and within a few minutes you’re on the sand, whether that’s early in the morning with a surfboard under your arm or later in the day as the light softens and the beach begins to empty. The cottage is arranged on a single level, making it easy to move around and settle into, with an open-plan living space that encourages slow breakfasts, shared meals and evenings spent talking rather than clock-watching. Outside, the garden is a real asset — sheltered, sunny and private, with space to sit back after a swim or let children play while dinner is prepared.
A short walk brings you into the centre of Croyde village, a place that has grown around its beach and surf culture while still feeling friendly and down to earth. There are several great pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby. Surf shops, bakeries and small food stores sit close together around the village green, making it simple to pick up provisions without needing the car. During the summer months, the village often hosts small markets and outdoor events, adding to the holiday atmosphere without overwhelming it. Everything is close enough that days naturally fall into an easy rhythm of beach, food and rest, with little need for planning ahead.
The wider area offers plenty to explore when you feel like venturing further. Putsborough Sands lies just beyond the headland, its wide sweep of sand backed by rolling dunes, while Saunton Sands stretches for miles and changes character with every tide. Woolacombe is close by for a livelier seaside feel, with cafés, shops and long promenades. Walkers can join the South West Coast Path for clifftop routes with open views across the Atlantic, while cyclists often head inland towards Braunton and the Tarka Trail, following the estuary through quieter landscapes. Exmoor National Park is also within easy reach, offering moorland walks, wooded valleys and dark skies once the sun sets. For a relaxing break Sunrising Cottage is in a perfect location next to Croyde Beach.
