Crownwheel Cottage is a traditional Devon holiday cottage in a gorgeous waterside location in the South Hams, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a mere ten minutes from the coast. It's ideal for families and friends, sleeping between six guests in three bedrooms with space for two extra beds or cots. The setting is idyllic, with grounds that include a private waterside patio, mill leat, bluebell wood, and shared lawns beside a clear flowing shallow stream. Children and dogs are very welcome here, where there is lots of space to explore, play and plan fun adventures. Downstairs bedrooms also make Crownwheel suitable for guests with limited mobility.
The cottage is one of three traditional properties dotted around the Watermill Estate. It's relaxingly rural yet reassuringly convenient for shops and other amenities. Slapton village is three miles away with a thriving village shop run by the community and a dog-friendly pub, the Queen's Arms, which serves food and local ales. It's a ten-minute walk from the centre of the village to beautiful Slapton Sands and the Slapton Ley Nature Reserve. The village of Strete is also within easy reach, also having a village shop and a welcoming dog-friendly pub with food and a children's play area.
In addition to days spent lazing on the beach, surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and fishing, you can explore this scenic region via an extensive network of cycling routes and footpaths, including the famous South West Coast Path. You only have to step outside the door for the chance of seeing kingfishers, barn owls, woodpeckers and many more birds that thrive in this protected environment. There's a family of dippers resident on site, and a family of otters are occasionally spotted playing on the lawn. Wildflowers flourish in the garden and attract butterflies and bees, while the colours and diversity of the hedgerows make them an attractive haven for birds and wildlife all year round.
Days out can include shopping, eating and sightseeing in historic Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, six and eight miles respectively from Crownwheel Cottage. Twelve miles away, Salcombe is a favourite spot for sailing enthusiasts with a harbour, river and more impressive beaches and coastline. Alternatively, drive to Totnes, 11 miles from the Crownwheel Cottage, where you'll find excellent independent shops, cafes and restaurants. There's always something exciting happening in the South Hams, whether it's an annual festival celebrating the landscape, food or arts, specialist markets, or live music and entertainment.
Crownwheel Cottage welcomes guests all year round, so get your booking in the calendar now and look forward to a fantastic holiday with your favourite people.
